Senior Responsible AI Research Scientist-Manager (Hybrid Office) Join to apply for the Senior Responsible AI Research Scientist-Manager role at Autodesk. Position Overview As a responsible AI research scientist‑manager at Autodesk Research, you will spearhead the creation of safe, reliable, and robust AI systems that help customers imagine, design, and make a better world. You will collaborate with scientists, researchers, engineers, and designers working on AI safety, trustworthy AI, and responsible AI across domains such as design systems, computer vision, graphics, robotics, human‑computer interaction, sustainability, simulation, manufacturing, architectural design, and construction. In this role, you will influence how Autodesk’s AI products align with safety, reliability, and societal benefit principles, shaping the future of AI applications at Autodesk and beyond. We publish at top‑tier conferences (CVPR, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, SIGGRAPH, FAccT, AIES) and collaborate with leading labs, blending an academic environment with product‑guided research. Location Location: San Francisco, Toronto, London, Portland, Colorado, Atlanta (USA), Canada or UK. Responsibilities Lead research projects focused on responsible, safe, reliable, robust, and trustworthy AI within a global team. Develop new ML models and AI techniques with strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and responsible implementation. Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to integrate responsible AI practices across Autodesk's products and services. Review and synthesize relevant literature on AI safety, reliability, and responsibility to identify emerging methods, technologies, and best practices. Work toward long‑term research goals in AI safety and responsibility while identifying intermediate milestones. Build relationships and collaborate with academics, institutions, and industry partners in the responsible and safe AI field. Explore new data sources and discover techniques for leveraging data responsibly and reliably. Publish papers and speak at conferences on topics related to responsible, safe, and reliable AI. Think strategically about research directions that align with Autodesk's commitment to safe and responsible AI development. Grow and manage a small team within the Autodesk AI Lab focused on Responsible AI. Minimum Qualifications PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, or related field with a focus on responsible, safe, and reliable AI. Strong publication track record in responsible AI, safe AI, reliable AI, or robust AI at top‑tier conferences and/or journals. Extensive knowledge and hands‑on experience with generative AI, including LLMs, diffusion models, and multi‑modal VLMs. Strong foundation in machine learning and deep learning fundamentals. Excellent coding skills in Python, with experience in PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX. Demonstrated ability to collaborate in cross‑functional teams and communicate complex ideas to technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Experience applying responsible AI principles to real‑world problems and products. Preferred Qualifications Experience with 3D machine learning techniques and their applications in design, engineering, or manufacturing. Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and regulatory landscapes. Knowledge of fairness, accountability, transparency, and safety in AI systems. Experience developing or implementing AI safety measures (robustness to distribution shift, uncertainty quantification, AI alignment techniques). Track record of contributing to open‑source projects related to responsible AI or AI safety. Salary Transparency For U.S.‑based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $175,300 and $302,500. Offers are based on experience and location and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, the compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, commissions, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package. For Canada‑BC based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $170,100 and $249,480. Offers are based on experience and location and may exceed this range.
