Title Shelter Resource Worker Details Date: Jan 22, 2026Location: New Westminster, BC, CACompany: Lookout Housing and Health SocietyEmployment Status: Casual Location Russell Residence, New Westminster Schedule 7 days a week, including day, afternoon/evening, and overnight shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Shifts 7.5 hours in length. Days of rest consecutive; schedule may change with two weeks notice. Probationary period 488 hours with reviews. Night premium for 50%+ shift between 0:00–08:00. Salary $27.92 - 29.60 depending on seniority per the Collective Agreement. Job Summary The Shelter Resource Worker (SRW) reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. SRWs provide direct service staff within a 24‑hour, 7‑days‑a‑week emergency shelter for homeless adults. They provide intakes, orientations, and support for guests, and connect them with public service agencies relevant to their needs. Job Duties Provide support, supervision, and assistance to homeless adults facing multiple barriers. Accept referrals and identify and share information with Lookout’s external resources. Refer guests to community services. Interview and provide basic necessities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all. Complete required records and maintain statistical data. Support others in the shelter who need assistance. Help new staff as needed. Work alert and attentive; sleeping during shifts is not permitted. Comply with and contribute to all aspects of the health and safety program. Qualifications & Competence Related Certificate or minimum Grade 12 education plus two years of recent related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Familiarity with community resources such as addiction, mental health, income assistance and harm reduction. Current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate. Crisis Intervention Skills (CPI), Naloxone, and Trauma Informed Practice training is an asset. Ability to work independently or in a team setting. Strong ability to manage stress and organize workload. Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills. Understands and maintains client/worker boundaries. Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment. Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks and operate job‑related equipment. Minimum of two years of sobriety if you have had concerns related to alcohol and/or drug use. Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector required.
