Teach fundamental basketball skills in Markham while creating safe, positive experiences for children, with lesson planning and program supervision at Aaniin Community Centre.
The City of Markham seeks a temporary part-time Basketball Instructor for Recreation, Community Services. You will plan, organize, instruct, and evaluate movement skills through basketball. The position serves children ages six to twelve, supports volunteers and Program Assistants, and maintains safety throughout programming. Strong communication and organization are central to the work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate, lead, and supervise basketball programming
- Write and organize lesson plans by week two
- Adapt lesson plans to each group’s abilities
- Prepare equipment and maintain supply inventories
- Enforce City of Markham safety regulations consistently
Requirements:
- High school diploma and minimum age sixteen
- Two years’ instructional basketball experience with children or adults
- Current First Aid, CPR C, and AED certification
- High Five Certificate and Healthy Child Development adherence
- Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills
