In 2011, it was awarded a section of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway extension, the first modern subway infrastructure project in the city. This project was completed in 2018.

Project Opportunity
FCC Canada is looking for a Geotechnical Instrumentation & Monitoring (GIM) Manager to join the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations project team Pape North Connect.
Reports to: Tunnel Construction Manager
The GIM Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation and management of the Geotechnical Instrumentation and Monitoring Plan (GIMP) and the overall instrumentation program to ensure safe and efficient execution for the transit infrastructure project.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage and support procurement, installation, and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation required for project execution.
- Review and manage the GIMP to streamline project processes.
- Manage subcontract for installation, maintenance, and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation.
- Manage handover of existing instrumentation from other contractors and final decommissioning of instruments no longer useful to the project.
- Manage and coordinate instrumentation teams, consultants, and contractors.
- Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior staff.
- Ensure instrument readings are being performed and reported as required by Project Agreement.
- Analyze instrumentation data to identify and assess site conditions and risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Ensure all activities comply with environmental and geotechnical regulations and industry standards.
- Meet with client daily to discuss instrumentation levels and necessary actions to protect EAS during active excavation works.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and project stakeholders to communicate findings.
- Review, prepare, and present detailed reports and submissions, including analysis and recommendations.
Education and Qualifications
- University, College, or Postgraduate Degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience with the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation.
- Previous experience working in a similar role on a large-scale transit/subway project is preferred.
- Strong understanding and interpretation of geotechnical instrumentation data.
- Proven experience in producing and reviewing geotechnical instrumentation reports.
- Professional Engineer certification is preferred.
Job Requirements
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation in Ontario.
