Kathari News, a new digital media organization that delivers timely, comprehensive and authoritative news and views on the global energy transition, is looking for a senior journalist to be its Perspectives Editor. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the voice and personality of Kathari News through high-value curation of research, analysis and other third-party content on the global energy transition. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a journalism job at a digital news startup and help us meet our ambitious goals to be a destination and a guide for everyone on the quest for a cleaner world.
Responsibilities
- Establish a strong pipeline of high-quality research reports, opinion pieces and other sources of analysis and insights on the global energy transition from think tanks, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, industry and governments.
- Develop an editorial calendar and workflow for the Perspectives section.
- Decide which material to read, summarize and feature on Kathari News.
- Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief on strategies for audience growth and engagement.
- Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief on expanding the scope of Kathari News to include originally produced journalism through op-eds and special projects.
- Adhere to our standards for accuracy, fairness, transparency, non-partisanship, editorial independence, the inclusion of diverse perspectives and putting our audience first.
Qualifications
- At least five years in daily journalism, preferably at a digital-first publication.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong command of English grammar, spelling and news-writing style (AP and/or CP).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead a project from development to realization.
- Experience with website production, SEO, analytics and newsletters is an asset.
- Experience reporting, writing and/or editing content about the global energy transition, particularly for a business audience, is strongly desired.
This is a full-time, remote, contract position with flexible hours and the successful candidate can be based anywhere in the world. More details here:
