Job Description Senior Android Developer RBCx pursues big, bold ideas and leverages RBC’s extensive experience, networks, and capital to help shape what’s next. Our four pillars – Banking, Capital, Platform, and Ventures – combine to support tech businesses of all sizes and stages, making us the go-to backer of Canadian innovation. Our people are our most valuable assets, which is why we invest deeply in making sure RBCx isn’t just a place to work, but a place to belong. We’re currently looking for ambitious trailblazers and curious minds who want to help grow the next generation of Canadian tech companies. If that’s you, we can’t wait to connect. About Dr. Bill Dr. Bill is an RBCx Ventures company that is working to take the pain out of medical billing and get doctors paid accurately. We are a high‑growth company that currently serves 3,000+ doctors across 3 provinces. You’ll join as an employee of RBC and get all the perks of working for a big company, but with a start‑up mindset and the agility to move quickly. Dr. Bill’s mobile development team is responsible for developing medical billing apps that are the primary means of interaction between us and our customers. Our mobile apps, with their speed and ease‑of‑use, are changing the way medical billing is done. We are looking for an Android software developer to join our team. We want someone who is eager to make an impact on their peers, on the product, and on our customers. You will provide technical leadership and make contributions toward developing new features, improving reliability, and refining our software development processes. What is the opportunity? You’ll have visibility into, and influence over, all parts of the technology stack, and enjoy a high degree of autonomy in your work. Clear view of the product roadmap, the business’ long‑term vision, and the opportunity to constructively contribute to both. Interact with product management and design, and be able to influence what solutions are chosen to meet customer needs. Lead the planning, design, development, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of significant portions of the software that supports the chosen solutions. Provide and receive feedback from your peers, and coach less experienced engineers both within the team and the broader organization. Use modern tooling throughout, whether that’s something currently part of our stack, or something new that you assess needs to be added to reliably deliver the desired user experience. A snapshot of what’s currently in‑use: Kotlin and RxJava, Room persistence library and SQLite and CI / CD: Docker, Github, Github Actions. What will you do? Lead the design and delivery of a significant portion of the software that supports the business, and for monitoring and maintaining that software in production. Encourage the team to continuously make small improvements to our tech, leading by example in your regular work. Find ways to empathize with the software’s users, and understand their challenges on an emotional level, whether those users are fellow developers, immediate team members, representatives of partner organizations, or end users. Embrace an owner’s mindset: continually striving to make an impact; investing time, energy, and capital as if they were your own; and understanding that no part of the business is outside the scope of your position. Bring in the production Android app experience, and have formed clear opinions about how different development patterns and practices can both negatively and positively impact your ability to be productive in a codebase, and by extension, the reliability of a business’ software platform. Be curious to continually learn new technologies, techniques, and interpersonal skills that, in your assessment, improve your own productivity, happiness, and the productivity and happiness of those around you. You enjoy what you do, and you like learning how to do it better. Mentor and coach other engineers, and have a practiced ability to spot when help is needed and tactfully provide guidance to get things unstuck. What do you need to succeed? Must‑haves 5+ years of experience working with Kotlin and Java, Standard library components like Coroutines & Flows. Experience with Jetpack Compose, declarative UI development, and creating shared components. Experience working with RESTful APIs. Experience with dependency injection and test‑driven development for Android. Passionate about shipping apps with exquisite UI and excellent performance. You care deeply about application security and understand the importance of protecting sensitive user data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Nice‑to‑Haves Experience with RxJava or other reactive programming frameworks. Experience with the OpenAPI Specification. Experience contributing to open‑source projects. Experience with CI / CD pipelines, preferably Github Actions. What’s in it for you? We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual. A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits and competitive compensation. Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities. Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high‑performing team. Opportunities to do challenging work.
