Based in Toronto, the Director, Diversified Industries, Corporate Banking ("Director") is a key contributor to CIBC Capital Markets' ongoing growth agenda. The Director will report to the Managing Director & Head, Diversified Industries, Corporate Banking. Industry sectors that are covered include, but are not limited to: manufacturing, business services, retail, wholesale, agriculture, transportation and telecom. The Director will be responsible for supporting a portfolio of client relationships, working with the relationship manager to advise existing and new clients on approaches to raising funds through the credit capital markets and acting as a key contributor on deal teams in the structuring, syndication and documentation of credit underwritings. More broadly, the Director will support the development and execution of overall business strategies and contribute to firm-wide priorities and business line initiatives. A Bachelor's degree or higher with a minimum of 6+ years of related experience; an MBA, CA, CFA or other relevant professional designation is considered an asset. A comprehensive understanding of corporate finance theory and practice as well as cash flow analysis technique (i.e. discount cash flow analysis). An understanding of multiple industry sectors including market factors, capital markets activity and influences with an ability to effectively differentiate from the competition through quality of coverage and service provided. Understand existing and potential clients’ needs sufficient to provide advice on appropriate credit structures, given the state of credit markets and the credit quality assessment of the client. This includes knowledge of corporate credit, experience in preparing and analyzing complex credit applications/ proposals and an excellent understanding of financial statements and accounting principles. Knowledge of capital markets, merchant banking, investment banking, private/ public debt and equity capital markets, trade finance, foreign exchange, commercial paper, securitization and financial products. Previous experience with leveraged finance is considered an asset. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, providing detailed explanation and interpretation of information and ideas related to complex technical, financial, and conceptual issues. Work with and guide junior officers in their analysis of accounts, provide recommendations, and modify, as necessary, all draft credit applications and recommended risk ratings. Maintain strong relationships with clients at senior levels, especially the CFO and/or Treasury level.
