We’re looking for a Linux expert with both DevOps and software development skills to automate everything about our hardware+software startup’s tech production and support for customers. Key Responsibilities Build, test, and ship our industrial 3D printers. Build, test, and release device software (Yocto Linux + custom components) and SaaS software. Troubleshoot, debug, and fix problems with hardware and software, especially on machines deployed at customer sites. Improve Yocto Linux build process that generates software images and RAUC bundles for printers. Create tools to troubleshoot hardware and software problems, including offline customer machines. Enhance the “bringup station” software used on our manufacturing line to provision new printers. Define and implement an automated test plan for printers: build test harnesses and tests. Transform the printer emulator software into a cloud‑hosted “emulator on demand” accessible to engineers with a one‑click spin‑up. Build a “print farm dashboard” to track usage, availability, and resource utilization for internal printers. Build a sustainable “operating system” for the company that scales over time and avoids spaghetti code. Qualifications Passion for programming, automation, and DevOps. Deep experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or other infrastructure‑as‑code platforms. Experience managing and improving complex build tooling; familiarity with Yocto, Buildroot, Docker‑based CI pipelines, or Kubernetes‑native build systems. Strong Linux expertise: shell scripting, systemd, udev rules, filesystems, and configuration for infrastructure components such as nginx. Solid networking and security knowledge to troubleshoot network problems and harden the Yocto OS. Production troubleshooting and log analysis skills; ability to identify root causes from logs, screenshots, or live repros. Ability to build tools and systems that automate problem diagnosis and reduce troubleshooting effort. 2+ years of experience deploying and troubleshooting distributed cloud apps on AWS and/or Azure. Experience advising and teaching customers on network configuration and security for printers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 2+ years of professional Python experience (our printer software is largely Python). Enthusiasm for productivity: building tools that speed up work without sacrificing quality. Pragmatic, flexible, and collaborative temperament. Experience and excitement for fast‑moving startups. Live in Montreal or willing to relocate; in‑person work required 3–5 days per week. Preferred Experience with 3D printing and selective printing environments. Professional background in software testing/QA or DevOps. Hardware/software integration experience, especially with custom hardware. Knowledge of Klipper firmware or similar 3D printer firmware. Advanced expertise with GitHub Actions or other CI tools. Yocto Linux experience and embedded systems programming in C/C++. Front‑end debugging skills for full‑stack problem solving.
