Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister for Public Safety and Correctional Services, the Chief Adult Probation Officer is a provincial senior management position with overall responsibility for the administration and delivery of the Community Corrections branch. The incumbent leads a team of direct and indirect reports, including Regional Managers, Adult Probation Officers (II and I), and administrative professionals. The role requires expertise in criminal justice, advanced clinical knowledge of offender behavior, program development and evaluation, and leadership in strategic management, policy development, and budgeting. The Chief Adult Probation Officer is responsible for adherence to the Correctional Services Act and related legislation (including the Criminal Code of Canada) as it relates to community supervision, and for developing protocols to maximize public safety while meeting statutory requirements. The incumbent also guides budget management, planning, program reviews, rehabilitative programs, and represents Community Corrections in committees, public consultations, and forums regarding research, funding, policy and program development on issues affecting public safety, rehabilitation, and restorative justice principles. Nationally, the incumbent helps set standards in conjunction with the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Heads of Corrections and related bodies. Base pay range CA$86,572.00/yr - CA$86,572.11/yr Note: This pay range is provided by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience. Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction in strategic management, policy development, program development and evaluation, financial operations, human resources, and legislation related to Community Corrections. Manage and develop a team of direct and indirect reports, including Regional Managers and Probation Officers, and administrative professionals. Develop protocols and procedures to maximize public safety while adhering to statutory requirements. Lead budgeting, internal planning, program reviews, and delivery of rehabilitative programs; formulate strategic and operational plans. Represent Community Corrections in committees, public consultations, and professional forums on research, funding, policy and program development. Collaborate nationally to set standards with senior corrections partners. Qualifications Completion of a bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences (equivalencies considered). Experience with crime, deviancy, and complex offender behavior. Experience with rehabilitation and case management practices. Experience managing policy and program development, administration and delivery. Experience in resource management (financial, human, operation). Experience within the criminal justice system.
