Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Senior Software Architect / Engineer. As a Senior Software Architect / Engineer, you will lead the design and development of mission-critical software systems for next-generation electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. In this role, you’ll architect scalable, safety-assured embedded and application-level software that underpins flight control, avionics, energy management, and other core systems. You’ll play a key part in defining the software strategy, driving system integration, and ensuring compliance with aerospace standards and certification requirements. Your Day-to-Day: Define software architecture for complex, distributed systems supporting real-time flight-critical functions Lead development of embedded software for avionics, flight control, propulsion, and system monitoring Drive full software lifecycle: requirements capture, architecture design, implementation, integration, verification, and certification Collaborate with hardware, systems, and safety teams to ensure tight integration and compliance with DO-178C or similar standards Define and lead a model-based approach to software development activities Be an integral part of the team, projecting positive behaviours and influence onto the team Possess an in-depth knowledge of the standards and specifications appropriate to the discipline Challenge the status quo, bring new ideas to improve engineering quality, productivity and timeliness of delivery Enforce standards, ensure rigor, resilience and continuous improvement in design solutions, meeting all regulatory requirements, conforming to specifications, quality and requirements within schedule and budget Act as a project integrator and interface between project management and other engineering teams Stay up to date with, and implement the latest developments in your field Drive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency We are looking for people that will have the following qualifications and experiences: Demonstrated experience (7+ years) in a Software Engineering role from aerospace or automotive, having worked across all phases of the lifecycle. Ideally you would have hands on experience with systems engineering, and you will have familiarity with eVTOL Certification regulations from the TCCA, FAA, and EASA. About Your Future Team.
