Reporting to a Director, Scientific Services, as Senior Medical Writer you will be responsible for partnering with healthcare clients to lead and develop innovative, high-quality scientific and medical programs and content across a broad range of disease areas.

 

What your responsibilities as Senior Medical Writer will include:

  • Developing and writing scientific content, using your medical knowledge to interpret medical data and build scientifically sound content (including manuscripts, training/educational materials) with a creative flair, while ensuring content tells a compelling story
  • Overseeing or developing core content-related deliverables including agenda development, workshop development, planning interactivity and/or other learning activities, and sourcing speakers and key opinion leaders.
  • Writing reports, newsletters, and tip sheets
  • Building strong relationships with speakers and stakeholders and partnering with them to develop content aligned with their objectives, including acting as the main point of contact for content
  • Reviewing work completed by other members of the Scientific Services team to ensure materials are accurate, scientifically correct, compliant with all regulatory requirements, and signed off by the client
  • Partnering closely with Project Managers in establishing and reviewing projected timelines and budget to ensure allocated time is realistic and content deliverables can be met
  • Participating in brainstorming sessions with Project Delivery teams and clients to identify innovative and creative approaches for delivering the client’s message aligned with their strategic objectives
  • Leading virtual or on-site meeting rehearsals with speakers that can include clients, KOLs, HCPs, PhDs, or Project Delivery team members
  • Troubleshooting content development issues during the entire project lifecycle to ensure content delivers on the client's vision effectively. This may include facilitating last minute changes to content prior to or at onsite/online event and managing speaker logistics/tech with vendors
  • Having a solution-oriented mindset across the project lifecycle to proactively identify and manage any risks or issues
  • Collaborating, as needed, with third-party vendors for on-site meetings and/or events to ensure successful delivery of programs
  • Actively participating in post-event debriefs with the client, Project Delivery team members, and other stakeholders identifying lessons learned for the purpose of process improvement at subsequent events
  • Coaching and mentoring Medical Writers and Medical Research Associates;
  • Guiding and advising on how to proceed when problems are encountered and ensuring decisions and initiatives are in line with processes as well as project goals and strategies
  • Creating development opportunities to broaden junior members’ scope on assigned projects
  • As needed, supporting with the development of new business proposals and RFPs

 

 What you’ll need to succeed:

  • A Masters or PhD in Health Sciences, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, or a related field, coupled with a minimum of 4 years of writing experience in a scientific or medical setting, with at least 2 years of agency experience
  • Ability to lead and direct internal team members and build strong relationships with both internal team members and clients
  • Knowledge of the global pharma industry and the associated regulatory and compliance requirements combined with knowledge of the global drug development process and product market needs
  • Experience with developing content for virtual and/or live events or webinars
  • Knowledge of or ability to research and quickly learn about the medical specialties of our client base
  • Ability to analyze critically and synthesize complex scientific information
  • Creative thinking skills to visualize and tell a story with words and graphics
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofing skills to convey messages effectively
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities to meet operational deadlines and juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with a focus on presentations, graphics, and templates
  • Self-direction with integrity, positive attitude, confidence, speed, and a passion for SDM’s vision, mission, and values
