Locum Consultant in Renal Transplantation

We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. This is a fixed‑term post of six months with a rotational shift pattern and on‑call duties. Job Overview You will join our team of Consultant Transplant Surgeons at the West of Scotland Renal Transplant Unit, based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow. Your role includes providing adult renal transplantation for the West of Scotland, vascular access surgery, and surgery associated with renal failure for Glasgow, Clyde, Dumfries and Forth Valley regions. The post is offered on a six‑session basis and is available for an immediate start. Responsibilities Perform adult renal transplantation procedures. Manage vascular access surgery, including complex vascular access. Provide surgical care associated with renal failure across the specified regions. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to deliver optimal renal services. Location & Services The Glasgow Renal and Transplant Unit has 65 inpatient beds at QEUH and supports approximately 600 haemodialysis patients, 50 peritoneal dialysis patients, over 1,000 renal transplant patients, and more than 200 patients per year requiring acute kidney injury and renal replacement therapy. Around 150 new renal transplants are performed annually, including roughly 50 living donor transplants.
