Software Development Manager, AWS Step Functions Join to apply for the Software Development Manager, AWS Step Functions role at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Step Functions is a visual workflow service that helps developers use AWS services to build distributed applications, automate processes, orchestrate microservices, and create data and machine learning (ML) pipelines. We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead a team of software engineers to deliver an innovative developer experience that makes it easy to build applications that scale. Your technical expertise, customer obsession, and business acumen will guide delivery of strategic projects with bottom‑line impact on our business and competitive position. Coaching and mentoring will help team members reach heights they never thought possible. Key job responsibilities Hire, manage, and grow your team of diverse engineers. Create and maintain short and long‑term product and tech roadmap. Lead delivery of projects with the right sense of urgency that balances the need to innovate quickly with long‑term sustainability and quality. Influence stakeholders within and outside the org and work across multiple orgs. Deliver value for our customers while building the right tech for operational excellence, maintainability, and future extensibility. Set the right operational models for the teams to succeed. Communicate effectively at multiple levels of management, building trust across the organization, and demonstrating discretion with sensitive information. Break abstract goals into attainable, measurable work items. Work in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment while driving teams to complete goals and execute across multiple parallel technical projects. Basic Qualifications 2+ years of engineering team management experience. 7+ years of engineering experience. Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live‑site operations. Experience partnering with product or program management teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy. Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective, product software engineers.
