Intermediate Mechanical Engineer Position: Intermediate Mechanical Engineer Company: AtkinsRéalis Location: Canada (remote or hybrid) Overview The Engineering Services group provides mechanical and electrical design for a wide range of commercial, institutional, recreational and multi‑residential building projects. This role is a regular full‑time permanent position within a high‑energy, team‑focused environment where design excellence and client delivery are priority. Responsibilities Provides advice, guidance and subject‑matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to mechanical systems design and construction, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards. Ensures that mechanical systems design and construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing. Conducts Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance work and new construction. Provides non‑resident engineering expertise through field inspections during various stages of construction and supports development of governance and process documentation for the program’s mechanical engineering practices. Assess alternative technical proposals submitted by contractors, providing feedback on feasibility and alignment to client requirements. Coordinates the technical elements of the program with respect to mechanical systems engineering, establishing targets and goals, and interfacing with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination. Reviews deliverables submitted by contractors or designers, confirms compliance with relevant requirements, codes and standards, and monitors designer input during construction (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock‑up approvals, punch list, etc.). Provides management‑level progress reports and briefings on mechanical design progress, issues and opportunities. Coaches, mentors and supports the career development of staff. About You Degree in Mechanical Engineering; registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with a recognized engineering board such as PEO. Minimum 7 years of experience in the design, construction and commissioning of mechanical systems for major capital projects or programs. Aviation experience is considered an asset. Experience defining functional and technical specifications in line with business requirements and managing requirements, scope definition, project planning, cost estimation, scheduling, testing, commissioning, project turnover, quality control and reporting. Knowledge of stakeholder and regulatory requirements, including ICAO, Transport Canada Aerodrome Standards, airport operations (tenants, airlines, travelers), HRDC (Fire Commissioner of Canada), Underwriters Laboratories (ULC), Code Consultants and Health & Safety Consultants. Knowledge of combustion, fuel, rotating equipment, mechanical systems, industrial machinery, pressure vessel regulations, codes, laws and technology limitations; familiarity with ISO 55001 Asset Management standard. Advanced knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office 365, project scheduling software, Maximo, ProjectWise, Oracle ERP, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD and MicroStation. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
