Join our team if you are excited about innovation, technical delivery and being part of an amazing team As the Technical Manager of the Unified Commerce Platform, you will lead the technical strategy and delivery of our multichannel commerce system, supporting thousands of team members and millions of customers. You'll be responsible for delivering high-quality, scalable, and innovative solutions, overseeing technical architecture, ensuring cross-platform stability, and managing performance metrics. You will champion technical excellence in product development, promote engineering best practices, and support the professional growth of your development team. You will take ownership of the frontend engineering strategy and program delivery within your area, addressing the needs of customers, stakeholders, and the broader TELUS team. Collaboration with Product, Design, and Operations teams is crucial for the successful delivery of projects that align with our Engineer Excellence objectives. You'll also build and support a highly engaged, performant technical team, and act as a technical mentor and coach to help build a strong and enduring engineering culture at TELUS. Reporting to the Director of Universal Digital Experience, you will work with cross-functional teams to achieve our engineering excellence targets. What you'll do: You are a passionate technical leader who will use your front end development expertise and experience leading engineering teams to guide your team. You can balance day-to-day technical challenges with the demands of a fast-paced agile team. You'll manage the growth and development of a diverse team of developers with varying digital skill-sets and create an environment that fosters technical innovation and where quality code is delivered naturally. You have the ability to be a technical champion for your team, focused on creating an engaged and strong engineering culture as well as building technical strategy to take us to the next level. Strategic Leadership & Digital Transformation Spearhead digital transformation of TELUS's commerce ecosystem through cloud-native architecture Lead strategic planning and execution across multiple engineering teams (30+ FTEs and Contractors) Manage substantial annual budget ($5M+) and resource allocation Collaborate with Product, Operations, and CIO organization to align technology roadmap with business objectives Drive organizational change through Agile transformation to achieve faster time-to-market Technical Leadership & Architecture Establish and govern enterprise-wide Micro Frontend practices, creating frameworks and delivery models Build and maintain high-performing DevOps practices supporting mission-critical commerce platforms Lead adoption and implementation of AI-based development methodologies Leverage advanced tools including GitHub Copilot, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI development platforms Modernize CI/CD pipelines and enhance system reliability through monitoring and automated recovery Team Management & Development Manage and develop 20+ team members including FTEs and contractors Achieve high team retention through focused career development initiatives Foster innovation and engineering excellence across all teams Coach and implement Agile methodologies across engineering teams Drive team adoption of AI-powered development tools and methodologies What you bring Required Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience Required Experience Minimum 8-10 years of progressive technology leadership experience 5+ years in management roles with large engineering teams (10+ members) Proven track record in enterprise digital transformation and application modernization Proven experience with React and development of modern web applications Strong understanding of software architecture patterns and best practices Experience managing the full development cycle, from technical requirements, deployment, maintenance through to product optimization Experience managing multi-million dollar budgets and resource allocation Required Technical Expertise Cloud & Platform Engineering: Deep expertise in cloud-native architectures and platforms Micro Frontend Architecture: Hands‑on experience with modern frontend architectures API & Microservices Design: Strong understanding of distributed systems design DevOps & CI/CD: Proven experience building and scaling DevOps practices Performance Optimization: Track record of improving system performance and reliability Security & Compliance: Knowledge of enterprise security frameworks and compliance requirements Nice to have: Experience with tools and technologies used for website management (i.e. CMS, eCommerce platforms, etc). Experience with AI assisted development Contributions to open‑source projects Knowledge of application security best practices Understanding of physical retail channels and fulfillment Strong background in telecommunications or large‑scale Strong understanding of commerce systems and digital payment platforms Salary Range: $110,000-$166,000 Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan: 20% Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience.
