Sr. Exploration Geologist - FIFO from Western Canada Join to apply for the Sr. Exploration Geologist - FIFO from Western Canada role at Hecla Mining Company Summary The Sr. Exploration Geologist position is an opportunity to take on a key role within a tight‑knot team tasked with the exploration of the historical Keno Hill Silver District. Reporting directly to the Exploration Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of site exploration, including staff, contractor, and consultant management, effective tracking and communication of progress and results, and the training and mentorship of junior staff to ensure safe completion of Hecla’s objectives. About Us The Keno Hill mine, located in the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory, is one of the highest‑grade silver districts in the world. It is 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na‑Cho Nyak Dun. The district covers 242 km² and contains numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past‑producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7–3.1 million ounces of silver in 2025 as the mine ramps up production. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a respected precious‑metals producer and has won numerous safety and environmental awards. Here’s What You Can Expect In This Role Ensure exploration team members work safely and comply with all safety and environmental requirements, including hazard identification, reporting, and PPE usage. Communicate effectively with management and stakeholders, maintain formal quarterly progress reporting, attend weekly updates, and resolve safety, environmental, and other project issues promptly. Work with the Exploration Manager and Senior Geologists to schedule and allocate departmental workload, ensure efficient workflows, and achieve timely exploration goals. Assist with contractor management to maximize drilling efficiency and compliance with Hecla’s safety, environmental, and regulatory commitments. Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to personnel and develop the exploration team to safely and efficiently achieve all project objectives. Review existing geological data and interpretations to develop a comprehensive knowledge of property geology and exploration history. Assist in target generation and property‑wide prospect evaluation and ranking. Work with wide array of consultants to advance geological research studies and initiatives. Coordinate the collection, compilation, management, and interpretation of geological information from field geology programs including mapping, prospecting, geophysics, and drilling. Collaborate with the wider Yukon exploration team and resource geology team from initial mineral potential assessment to resource generation and expansion, including QA/QC implementation and reporting. Assist with annual budgeting tasks, track expenditure and progress to ensure programs are completed on time and within budget. Other duties may be assigned. Be part of a team you can rely on, with a strong support network. Qualifications Requirements Bachelor’s degree in geology (post‑graduate degree desirable). Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in exploration drilling programs. Experience supervising geological field and drilling campaigns, managing staff and contractors, and delivering exploration objectives. 3D software experience (preferentially Leapfrog or Mineplan), GIS, and Microsoft Office skills. Experience developing geological models and targeting. Excellent understanding of geological settings, ore‑forming processes, geochemistry, and structural geology. Ability to think about geologic processes across time and at different scales. Strong communication skills, professional writing and verbal presentation. Experience developing budgets, tracking and reporting expenditures. Self‑motivated, organized, and leadership abilities. Commitment to safety, environment, and community. Pre‑Employment Requirements Pre‑Employment Testing (drug & alcohol, blood lead, audiogram). Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Clean Driver’s Abstract. Assist in resolving health and safety matters in a timely manner. Use and maintain PPE. Suggest improvements to work processes. Assist Management in supporting changes to achieve desired targets. Ensure plant and equipment operate within safe limits. Use correct equipment for the job. Participate in risk assessment methodology. Participate in safety initiatives. Receive required training and instruction. Maintain good housekeeping standards. Work Environment Employees will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including snow, ice, and extreme temperatures ranging from cold to heat. The work environment may involve contact with potentially hazardous wildlife, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the use of explosives. There is also a risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration. Noise levels can occasionally be loud. Work Location & Schedule This is a fly‑in fly‑out (FIFO) position based at a remote mining camp, operating on a rotational schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off with some flexibility. Camp accommodations and meals are provided while on site. All travel to and from the mine site is arranged through a designated travel agency and coordinated from approved flight hubs. Preferred candidates reside in the Yukon, British Columbia, or Alberta, particularly near major transportation centers.
