Reporting to the Controller or CFO, this role is responsible for implementing and maintaining robust financial policies and procedures to ensure transparency, compliance, and operational efficiency. Key areas of oversight include budgeting, cash management and forecasting, journal entry review, investments, accounts payable, gifts of shares, recordkeeping, auditing, and financial reporting. The Associate Director also provides leadership, oversight, and mentorship to the Finance Officers and the Finance Assistant. Core Responsibilities Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist the Finance Manager with the development of annual budgets, cash flow management, and long-term financial projections. Cash Management & Investments: Provide backup support to the Finance Manager in reviewing investment-related journal entries, ensuring investment activity is reconciled, compliant with the Statement of Investment Policy, and rebalanced as required. Accounts Payable & Recordkeeping: Review disbursement requests and operating expenditures for the bi-weekly cheque run and ensure accurate documentation and financial controls. Auditing & Financial Reporting: Support the Finance Manager in preparing monthly financial statements. Collaborate with the Finance Manager, Controller, and CFO to provide necessary information for external audit preparation and the annual charity return. Team Leadership: Provide oversight, mentorship, and performance support to Finance Officers and the Finance Assistant, fostering a culture of accountability, professional growth, and continuous improvement. Process Improvement: Participate in ongoing process improvement initiatives within the Finance team and contribute significantly to the implementation and optimization of Financial Edge. Participate in process improvement initiatives and perform additional related duties as required. Qualifications & Experience Holds a Canadian Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) and is a member in good standing required. A post-secondary degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required. Minimum of three (3) years relevant professional experience required. Experience working with Financial Edge, Raiser’s Edge or Peoplesoft considered an asset. Previous experience managing junior staff is required. Working knowledge of non-profit accounting standards preferred. Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
