About the role: Samsara's Quality Automation and Engineering (QAE) team uses test engineering, automation, and data analysis skills to drive product quality so that our customers can realize the full benefits of our platform. To further the goal of quality, we are seeking to invest in automation, strengthen our frameworks, and integrate with hardware and software. We’re looking for an experienced automation engineer to increase our automation coverage for Vehicle Gateway or Safety products within the VG firmware product group. This is a remote role open to candidates residing in Canada. In this role, you will Champion automation frameworks and collaborate with engineering teams to design APIs that prioritize automation from the start, within a close-knit Firmware Quality. Partner with your QE Lead/Manager, Engineering, and Automation framework teams to define quality goals, expand test coverage, and focus on an automation-first strategy. Focus on automation of new features & existing regression test cases to minimize regression cycle time & improve overall quality of product. Build & execute automation tests simulating real-world scenarios to find defects & regressions, triage with relevant stakeholders, and publish detailed dashboards/reports. Develop an automation strategy to facilitate testing activities throughout Samsara product life cycles. Integrate hardware infrastructure for simulation, hardware validation, and product development. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices. Minimum requirements for the role Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Electrical or Computer Engineering. At least five years of experience in developing automated test frameworks and software tools for product development and validation. Strong understanding of test system architectures and understands build, release test pipeline within SDLC. Understanding of embedded or distributed systems. Experience in setting up automated test environments and building test beds with physical hardware. Demonstrated proficiency in debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams with diverse backgrounds. An ideal candidate also has Built or worked on customer shipping software. Familiarity with testing devices that use wireless protocols such as BLE, WiFi, LTE, and GNSS. Proven experience in defining test plans, triaging test failures, and reporting results and relevant metrics. Has worked on designing and developing hardware infrastructure for testing applications (e.g., power measurement tools, RF testing, etc.). Has worked with data analysis tools and packages, including SQL, Pandas, Databricks, and others. Hands-on experience with test instrumentation, including power supplies, power analyzers, battery simulators, call boxes, and GPS simulators. Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles. For eligible roles, a new hire RSU award may be awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually. We pay for performance, and top performers in eligible roles may receive above-market equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market. The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
