Calgary, Canada Sia Full time

Field Telecom Subject Matter Expert (Calgary) Sia is a next-generation, global management consulting group founded in 1999 that specializes in digital strategy, data science, and transformation services. With 3,000 consultants in 48 locations across 19 countries, we help clients mitigate risk and maximize opportunity by applying creative, responsibility‑driven solutions. We are looking for a skilled Field Telecom Subject Matter Expert to lead the assessment and modernization of telecommunications infrastructure for a high‑profile client in the Calgary area. The role requires a local presence with a hybrid work arrangement and some in‑office time. Key Responsibilities: Inventory existing field telecom assets—including private fiber, microwave links, satellite, cellular, and carrier‑provided systems. Gather insights from operations, IT/OT, engineering, and field teams to identify pain points related to outages or service degradations. Understand regulatory drivers affecting telecom operations. Conduct risk assessments for single points of failure, limited coverage, and cyber vulnerabilities. Benchmark current systems and costs against industry best practices and peers. Prioritize risks by impact on safety, operations, and compliance, and model disruption scenarios (fiber cuts, tower outages, satellite failures) to test resilience. Define a future‑state telecom architecture, including redundancy models aligned with operational, safety, and regulatory objectives. Develop a phased roadmap with scope, sequencing, dependencies, resource needs, governance, ownership, and KPIs. Mandatory Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Minimum 10 years of experience in field telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optics, microwave, satellite, cellular, and carrier systems. Proven expertise in inventorying, assessing, and optimizing telecom assets that support field operations. Strong knowledge of telecommunications risk assessment—single points of failure, coverage limitations, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Experience engaging stakeholders across operations, IT/OT, engineering, and field teams to uncover operational challenges. Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements that impact field telecom operations. Skillful benchmarking of telecom systems and costs against industry peers. Ability to develop redundancy and resilience models aligned with operational, safety, and regulatory objectives. Experience creating phased roadmaps, governance models, KPIs, and facilitating cross‑functional collaboration, including supply chain and change management. Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills to drive modernization initiatives. Additional Skills & Experience: Certifications in telecom technologies or project management (e.g., PMP, CCNA, Fiber Optic Certification). Strong understanding of operational technology (OT) networking and integration. Benefits: Competitive salary with structured yearly increases and bonuses. Healthcare benefits including dental, vision, life insurance, and RRSP contributions. Career advocacy program offering coaching, collaboration, and real‑time feedback. Learning and development platform through the Sia Institute, working groups, and training. Reimbursement for continuing education and certifications. Opportunity to work in an environment that fosters knowledge sharing and international collaboration. DEIB: Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are integral to Sia’s culture. Our global network promotes a diverse environment with initiatives in gender equality, LGBTQ+, race & ethnicity, working parents, and disabilities.
