About you The Senior EHS Specialist supports the company’s health, safety, and environmental programs across laboratories, manufacturing, and office environments. This role is hands-on, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies, while fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. What you'll do Assist in ensuring site operations comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), relevant federal/provincial environmental laws, and internal Quality Management System (QMS) policies. Conduct regular, documented safety inspections and facility audits, including adherence to cleanroom protocols where applicable, to identify potential hazards. Track corrective actions through closure. Develop and deliver mandatory EHS training programs for new hires and current employees, covering topics such as Hazard Communication (WHMIS), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and laboratory safety. Coordinate all aspects of incident investigation, including gathering data, conducting root cause analysis, developing corrective action plans, and ensuring timely reporting to management and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Partner with Facilities, Operations, HR, and Quality to integrate EHS into daily business processes. Perform job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for routine and non-routine tasks, with a focus on precision manufacturing and laboratory environments, to mitigate workplace risks. Maintain training records, safety documentation, and regulatory compliance logs (WHMIS, OSHA, MOL, SDS, etc.). Conduct regular inspections of labs, production areas, and facilities to identify unsafe conditions and verify corrective actions in conjunction with the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). Support incident reporting, root cause investigations, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). Track and report on EHS KPIs (near misses, TRIR, training compliance, etc.). Oversee and manage hazardous (e.g., batteries, chemicals) and non-hazardous waste disposal procedures, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and timely shipment in compliance with Ontario regulatory requirements. Maintain and monitor compliance with site environmental permits and registrations (e.g., wastewater, storm water). Assist in the timely preparation and submission of all required environmental reports. Act as a key liaison and support for the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), helping to organize meetings, track recommendations, and promote employee engagement in safety activities. Maintain comprehensive and accurate EHS records, including training records, inspection logs, incident files, and regulatory documents, ensuring alignment with QMS requirements. Assist in developing, training, and coordinating the site’s emergency response plans and teams (e.g., fire safety, first aid). What you need Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygienist or a related technical field. 3-5 years of professional experience in an EHS role, preferably within a regulated environment such as medical device, pharmaceutical, or high-tech manufacturing. Demonstrated working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), regulations for industrial establishments, and basic understanding of safety within an ISO 13485 (Medical Device QMS) framework. Preference given to candidates holding Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification (Part I & II) or an equivalent Canadian safety designation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively train employees at all levels of the organization. Exceptional organizational skills and high attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and compliance documentation, essential for a regulated industry. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to investigate incidents and determine effective root cause solutions. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentation creation. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team, demonstrating maturity and professionalism. Why Join Us? Shape how safety and environmental stewardship support cutting-edge diagnostics, with visible impact on lab, manufacturing, and office environments. You will see your work reflected in safer operations, stronger compliance, and a proactive safety culture. You will be a trusted partner to Facilities, Operations, Quality, HR, and R&D, with real ownership over programs like training, inspections, and incident management. You will help design and refine scalable EHS practices in a fast-paced, regulated setting. You will join a mission-driven, collaborative team that values clarity, accountability, and practical problem-solving. You will grow your EHS expertise in a high-tech environment while contributing to work that directly supports better healthcare. Please note: For the Greater Toronto area, the expected salary range for this part-time (20 hours/week) position is between $40 and $45 CAD per hour. Compensation will be determined based on the individual’s demonstrated experience, education, training, relevant certifications or licensure, and other applicable business and organizational factors.
