Electrical Engineering Technologist– Protection

Overview Electrical Engineering Technologist – Protection & Control at CIMA+. The role is within the Energy & Resources team, contributing to the design of high-level diagrams, development of protection philosophy, and participation in large-scale electrical energy projects including substations, hydroelectric plants, and renewable energy projects. Hybrid work model with flexible hours; 2 days per week in one of the offices: St. John’s, NL; Saint John, NB; or Dartmouth, NS. Job Responsibilities Design Protection & Control systems with 2D software (AutoCAD) Prepare project deliverables including detail drawings, electrical schematics, layouts, equipment sizing, etc. Collaborate with engineers and technicians in the execution of technical tasks Prepare plans, drawings and calculations based on specifications provided Develop electrical Control and Protection systems, including single-line diagrams, logic diagrams, three-wire AC diagrams, protection and control diagrams, wiring drawings, device connection drawings, assembly plans, material lists and specifications for manufacture and installation on site of Control and Protection panels Develop AC and DC power systems, including single-line diagrams, AC and DC load calculations, distribution diagrams, and connection drawings of chargers, batteries, inverters, etc. Participate in site surveys (substations and power stations) Coordinate with engineering disciplines (apparatus, civil, mechanical, building) to develop design solutions for optimized substation and power plant systems Carry out site work sporadically for start-up or monitoring, when opportunities arise Qualifications College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent related discipline 5+ years of relevant experience Basic knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) Knowledge of protection and control principles and philosophies is an asset Experience in the design of electrical systems is an asset Experience in detailed P&C design with major and/or local utilities in Canada is an asset Experience using AutoCAD software is an asset What We Offer Comprehensive Group Benefits from day one for permanent employees (at least 20 hours/week) Employee and Family Assistance Program Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with up to 4% employer contribution Employee-owned company with annual opportunity to purchase shares Flexible work schedule in a hybrid model Work/Life balance policy across Canada 3–5 weeks of vacation, based on relevant experience Tailored training to improve existing skills Additional Information Ethics and integrity are fundamental values at CIMA+.
