THE OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join Harding Technologies based in Edmonton, Alberta. The Chief Technology Officer will guide the strategic direction, development, and execution of the company's technology initiatives to drive growth and innovation. The Chief Technology Officer will ensure Harding Technologies remains at the forefront of innovation. This role will require extensive experience in both hardware and software engineering, technology operations leadership, and a proven track record of managing complex technological transformations. This position requires collaboration with the executive team to align technology initiatives with business objectives, while also working closely with engineering teams to ensure the success of key technology projects.

The CTO will oversee innovation and mapping out product development. This would include creating technical documentation, white papers, diagrams, and detailed plans which would be shared with engineering to guide the development of new and existing products.This could include current products such as fire alarm systems, intercom systems, and other products that support oil and gas, heavy equipment, telecommunication, and additional sectors. The CTO will also serve as a bridge between the Senior Leadership Team and engineering to drive innovation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead and drive the company's technology strategy, working closely with the executive team to ensure that technology initiatives align with overall business goals.
  • Technology Vision & Innovation: Identify and integrate emerging trends and technologies to maintain Harding Technologies' competitive advantage. Collaborate with Research and Development to ensure a strong innovation pipeline aligned with market demands.
  • Technology Oversight & Development: Oversee the planning and execution of software and hardware initiatives, ensuring that strategic business needs are translated into clear technical specifications for the engineering team.
  • Technical Writing: Produce high-quality technical documentation, reports, and proposals to support internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and compliance with industry standards.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow the technology team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Oversee the technology budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet strategic goals while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Product, Marketing, Operations) to ensure technology supports company goals and delivers a competitive market advantage.
  • Risk Management: Apply strong risk management principles to ensure the use of industry-standard components, the longevity and reliability of products, and the security of the company's technology infrastructure. Mitigate risks related to cybersecurity and data privacy.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with technology vendors, service providers, and contractors to support technology projects and operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior technology leadership role.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing a technology strategy within a similar industry.
  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, architecture design, cloud computing, and data management.
  • Experience in scaling technical teams and leading cross-functional collaboration.
  • Deep understanding of emerging technologies and their potential impact on business.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Visio for project planning, requirements documentation, line drawings, and conceptual design would be an asset.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and prioritize technology initiatives effectively.
  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience producing clear, well-structured technical documentation, reports, and proposals.
  • Successful candidates must be able to qualify to be an APEGA member.
