As a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will oversee all financial operations—including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance—while managing and mentoring the finance team. Your proven ability to build processes, influence strategic decisions, and drive results will be central to succeeding in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee company-wide financial operations: budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, fixed assets, and ensure timely regulatory filings.
  • Prepare and manage budgets and variance analysis; coordinate financial planning and cost accounting.
  • Understand, manage, and comply with payroll tax laws, payroll remittances, and annual WSIB/EHT reconciliation.
  • Establish strong controls and processes to oversee cash flow, A/R, A/P, and financial reporting.
  • Manage corporate finance functions such as annual insurance reviews, banking arrangements, and legal stakeholder relationships.
  • Review and approve purchase order requisitions; credit card reporting and management.
  • Open next fiscal period and close previous fiscal year.
  • Conduct year-end processes and work with external auditors, including year-end inventory.
  • Analyze production costs and efficiency KPIs to identify cost-reduction opportunities and enhance profitability.
  • Lead and mentor three direct reports and one external IT Administrator, fostering a high-performance team culture.
  • Spearhead an exciting special project to collaborate with a third-party provider on strategic updates to our Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) ERP/CRM system—optimizing processes and driving continuous improvement.
  • Partner with senior leadership to influence key decisions, optimize cross-border operations, and achieve strategic objectives.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity (such as Controller, Director of Finance, or similar), within a manufacturing environment.
  • Cross-border experience with both U.S. and Canadian tax, compliance, and financial reporting is required.
  • Proven track record with financial reports, cost accounting, budgeting, and variance analysis in a manufacturing setting.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills to interpret data, optimize workflows, and drive efficiencies.
  • Detail-oriented and strong team-building skills; able to lead and motivate diverse teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA, CA, or CMA is required.
  • An MBA would be considered a valuable complement, enhancing strategic leadership and business acumen.
  • Experience with tier 1 ERP systems (particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations) is required.
