The Memory Living Manager will work collaboratively with the Health & Wellness Manager and the Regional Manager of Care in planning, managing, and leading all aspects of the Memory Living Neighbourhood, including directing the Memory Living team members and executing the Memory Living Program Standards. The Memory Living Manager is passionate about providing the highest quality of services to residents and is committed to creating a caring home environment for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s. The Memory Living Manager’s role is “people intensive” with a substantial component of the job involving resident/family relations and team member relations. The Manager is a “hands on” leader who works alongside Neighborhood team members while creating a resident centered environment, supporting flexibility to respond to changing resident needs and providing opportunities for spontaneous activity. Key Activities Resident Relations: Builds relationships with residents and families, provides routine and structure with flexibility for changing needs, uses nursing process and dementia care strategies for individualized care, coordinates communications with residents, families, and the Neighborhood team, completes admissions/discharges documentation, contributes to person-centered life plans, ensures daily activities are structured and well organized, and participates in community outreach. Leadership: Hires, trains, coaches, supervises, and leads a quality team; plans and leads operations in the Memory Living Neighborhood; partners with Life Enrichment to provide activities; designs and facilitates the Neighborhood program and maintains relationships with Alzheimer’s organizations; communicates professionally with leadership; ensures GPA training and annual renewals for staff; provides coaching and feedback; promotes a positive, respectful environment for residents, families, visitors and team members. Regulatory Compliance: Ensures duties align with Chartwell policies and government regulations; follows health and safety policies; addresses identified safety issues; maintains confidentiality of resident information. Experience Minimum two (2) years of related experience in a health care setting. Minimum two (2) years’ experience with residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in a residential setting. Minimum two (2) year prior management experience preferred. Registered Practical Nurse with current certificate of competence (Ontario). A degree such as gerontology, therapeutic recreation, or related field with a minimum of three years of management and direct supervision experience preferred. Completion of a specialized behavioral education certification program is an asset (GPA, P.I.E.C.E.S, Montessori methods). Skills & Abilities Empathetic and warm personality with understanding of dementia/Alzheimer’s needs. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong group facilitation and training skills. Customer service excellence with focus on a very satisfied experience; adherence to Neighborhood practices/processes and opportunity for improvements. Effective communication to translate the current business environment to the Neighborhood team; tact and empathy in family communications. Ability to respond to emergency situations as per Chartwell policies. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
