Note: This role can be based out of our NYC office or remotely from anywhere in North America. Responsibilities Join and be a part of the Networking Observability team, helping build the core of a distributed database. Contribute to components that facilitate communication between cooperating distributed processes and make these processes and their communication observable. Improve MongoDB networking, enhance resource utilization efficiency, and build low-overhead observability features. Collaborate with a small team (about six engineers) near the bottom of the stack, influencing performance, robustness of the open source database, and development efficiency. Work on POCs and performance tests for new architectural directions in the networking stack and integrate OpenTelemetry to accelerate issue investigation and performance bottleneck diagnosis. Qualifications 10+ years of experience building distributed systems. Experience delivering and deploying a product with cross-team stakeholders. Production-level software experience with a large user base, robust design, and high code quality; proficiency in C++ is required. Understanding of modern computer architecture and internals to reason about design choices in a system like MongoDB. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and motivation to collaborate with colleagues and mentor junior engineers. Strong time and project management skills with the ability to assess project cost and complexity realistically. Solid computer networking fundamentals with a desire to improve them. Demonstrated industry success or academic research in areas such as high performance/low latency networking, performance tuning, or building high performance distributed and concurrent systems. MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in Canada is: CAD 159,000—CAD 221,000. Compensation is based on skill, experience, qualifications, and location.
