Program Overview We are excited to offer a unique opportunity to join our Waste Management Engineering Progression Program . This role offers a flexible hybrid work model, with a standard 35-hour work week. This program provides a structured career path for engineering professionals, encompassing roles at three key levels: Engineering Intern, Engineer, and Senior Engineer . This program is designed to support the planning, design, management, and authorization of engineering services, operations, and assets within the Division for a range of waste management projects. This includes environmental assessments, asset management, master planning, and maintenance activities. Participants will gain hands‑on experience in managing projects, conducting assessments, and optimizing waste management operations. Compensation: $83,556.20 - $104,431.60 As an Engineering Intern, you support small‑scale waste management projects, assisting in project planning, design, and execution under the supervision of senior staff. You participate in environmental assessments, capital project designs, and property transactions, while gaining exposure to engineering standards and legislative compliance. Key Responsibilities Assist with planning, design, and management of small projects. Develop project schedules, budgets, and manage procurement of goods and services. Direct technical staff in design projects and contract preparations. Administer contracts, conduct site visits, and assess work quality and progress. Prepare technical reports, Council reports, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications Must be registered or eligible for registration as an Engineering Intern with PEO, or actively pursuing a Limited License. Compensation: $102,120.20 - $127,654.80 As an Engineer, you will manage medium‑scale waste management projects or components of larger projects. You are responsible for project planning, design, assessments, and optimization, often chairing project teams independently or supporting senior engineers on high‑profile projects. Key Responsibilities Plan, design, and manage medium‑size projects independently. Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and consultant work plans. Lead project teams, provide guidance to Engineering Interns, and administer contracts. Conduct public consultations, represent projects at stakeholder meetings, and ensure compliance with regulations. Prepare technical reports, Council reports, and collaborate with regional staff and external partners. Qualifications Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligible. Compensation: $112,330.40 - $140,413.00 As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for large‑scale, high‑profile, or politically sensitive waste management projects. You will lead project teams, oversee project design and execution, and ensure compliance with legislation and environmental standards. The Senior Engineer also mentors junior staff and represents the Region in high‑stakes negotiations. Responsibilities Lead and manage large‑scale, high‑profile projects from conception to completion. Establish project scope, design, schedules, and budgets, ensuring timely and cost‑effective delivery. Supervise engineers, interns, and technical staff, providing mentorship and technical expertise. Administer contracts, authorize payments, and negotiate claims and disputes. Conduct public consultations, represent the Region in negotiations, and ensure compliance with regulations. Qualifications The same licensing requirements as the Engineer role, including a P.Eng. or Limited License with the PEO.
