Join to apply for the Senior Industry Consultant, Retail role at MongoDB We are looking for a passionate technical expert with experience in the retail industry to join our growing, globally‑dispersed Industry Solutions Team. The Industry Solutions team is the MongoDB expert community delivering thought leadership and practical direction in industry‑specific data challenges. This involves generation and delivery of content (webinars, white papers, blogs, events, presentations, etc.) on industry‑specific solutions and direct account engagement with clients’ senior executives to help business leaders see how MongoDB meets their industry’s needs, wants, and pain points. These responsibilities require a solid mix of technical knowledge and people, presentation, and thought leadership skills. Your objective is to align MongoDB as an industry solution, understand clients and their needs, develop modern solutions, modernize legacy software, transition to modern solutions, and guide them through continuous data‑driven modernization. This will require staying attuned to the retail industry worldwide and collaborating with functions across product, partners, marketing, and sales. You will play a key role in winning deals, driving business forward, and be a trusted advisor to a wide range of clients from startups to the world’s largest enterprise IT organizations. The role will primarily focus on the North American market but may support other regions at times. It is based in Toronto, ON, or remotely from ON, QC, BC, AB, or NS, with roughly 30% travel across the NORAM region and to some extent globally. As a candidate, you should have: Deep expertise in technical architecture, solution design, and delivering complex technical solutions at scale 5+ years of experience in the retail industry or significant experience in related research or adjacent functions or in the retail software industry Experience solving industry‑specific data challenges or architecture considerations such as modern composable or unified commerce, personalization, inventory management, in‑store and staff‑facing applications, order management, point of sale, semantic search, conversational agents Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to visualize and communicate complex information to all levels of an organization—both internally and externally Spoken and written professional fluency in English Ideally, you would also have: An advanced degree with a proven background (Masters, Ph.D., or equivalent experience) Knowledge of industry challenges, innovation and trends within Retail Experience of customer or client‑facing engagements—sales, pre‑sales, or thought leadership Experience executing content delivery against a technical go‑to‑market strategy—decks, solutions, blogs, whitepapers, one‑pager, demo and video creation Proficiency with a range of technical architectures and scalable, highly available distributed systems, ideally knowledge and experience of common retail data architecture principals: MACH architecture, data mesh, headless, composable Ability to discuss a broad range of data‑related technologies (RDBMS, document, key‑value, unstructured, NoSQL) and tooling such as ETL/CDC technology Ability to discuss AI and generative AI from a use case, value and architectural perspective Full‑stack software development experience including database programming and data modeling A MongoDB Certification What you do at MongoDB: Translate retail industry challenges and trends into an understanding of how digital transformation or investment into technical use cases can create business benefits for senior management and executive leadership Create a technical, industry‑specific go‑to‑market strategy addressing major challenges and opportunities for our customers, including internal and external marketing materials—sales enablement, slide decks, whitepapers, blogs, solutions, demos, etc. Work with our sales team to help ensure success in accounts ranging from small startups to large enterprises at the IT decision maker to executive level Advise client technical teams in designing systems, applications, and infrastructure to help drive large projects leveraging MongoDB in their respective industries Represent MongoDB at internal, customer and retail industry events Represent MongoDB in international organizations, workgroups, committees, and standardization bodies Maintain close alignment with product management & engineering to communicate field requirements and changes in industry needs to leadership Demonstrate resilience and sound judgment in dealing with business challenges and guide junior colleagues to successful resolution Enjoy the ride as we’re growing fast About MongoDB MongoDB is built for change, empowering our customers and people to innovate at the speed of the market.
