Role Overview3> The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the company’s occupational health and safety program across multiple commercial construction projects. This role ensures full compliance with Canadian and provincial OHS legislation, WorkSafe requirements, and company standards while fostering a strong, proactive safety culture. The Safety Manager provides leadership to safety personnel, partners closely with operations and site leadership, and drives continuous improvement through training, audits, incident management, and effective collaboration with subcontractors and clients. Safety Program Leadership Develop, implement, and maintain company safety policies and procedures in compliance with applicable Canadian occupational health and safety legislation, including provincial regulations, WorkSafe requirements, and relevant federal standards. Ensure consistent application of safety standards across all job sites. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce incidents and improve safety performance. Supervision & Team Management Directly manage and support safety team members assigned to multiple projects. Conduct regular site visits to audit performance, coach safety staff, and verify compliance. Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback to Safety Officers and team. Work closely with Operations, Site Superintendents, CSO’s and General Contractors in spearheading safe work procedures and practices. Site Safety Oversight Perform regular safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments across all assigned sites. Review and approve site-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and pre-task plans. Ensure proper incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions. Training & Communication Coordinate and deliver safety training for employees, supervisors, and subcontractors. Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site safety orientations as needed. Act as a safety resource for project managers, superintendents, and field leadership. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all safety protocols, including Salus processes and reporting. Incident Management & Compliance Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation. Maintain occupational health and safety records, incident statistics, safety metrics, and compliance documentation in accordance with applicable Canadian and provincial regulations. Serve as the primary point of contact during regulatory inspections, audits, and investigations conducted by provincial OHS authorities (ex WorkSafe) and other applicable agencies. Subcontractor & Client Coordination Ensure subcontractor compliance with company and site safety requirements. Participate in project planning meetings to integrate safety into construction operations. Support client safety expectations and reporting requirements. Ensure subcontractors understand and follow all safety programs and site practices align with WorkSafe requirements and Employment Standards legislation. Required Qualifications 5+ years of construction safety experience in commercial construction. 2+ years managing or supervising safety personnel preferred. Experience with electronic safety documentation systems (Salus preferred). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organization. Strong working knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety legislation, provincial regulations, and construction safety standards. Proven experience overseeing multiple active construction sites. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to train, educate, and support site teams in addressing safety challenges. Ability to travel regularly between job sites.
