We are also proud to be named Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures for 2023 and 2024 Learn more at shn.ca Job Description Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Director ensures SHN’s digital ecosystem is reliable, secure, and strategically aligned to support exceptional patient care and operational excellence. This role is pivotal in advancing SHN’s vision of becoming a digitally mature, AI-enabled health system that leverages technology to improve clinical outcomes, streamline workflows, and deliver patient-centered care. The Director provides leadership for network infrastructure, digital applications, and AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with industry best practices for cybersecurity and trust. Responsibilities Collaborate with the CIO and VP, Redevelopment & Technology to develop and execute SHN’s Digital Roadmap for Digital Services and AI. Provide leadership to Digital Services managers; establish clear goals, objectives, and performance metrics. Oversee delivery of IT infrastructure and AI projects, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities. Establish governance frameworks for AI, addressing privacy, security, and ethical considerations. Manage AI procurement processes, including vendor evaluations and contract negotiations. Collaborate with clinical, IT, legal, and compliance teams for integrated AI implementation. Develop training programs for staff on AI tools and best practices. Monitor AI performance and manage risks related to data security, patient safety, and compliance. Chair and operationalize architectural governance: lead the Architecture Standards Review Board (ASRB) to enforce reference architectures, design reviews, and N‑1 standards. Ensure maintenance and operations of SHN’s IT infrastructure/network; set target state and remediation plans across identity, network, endpoint, and application security; align with privacy and TRA/PIA processes. Lead provincial compliance efforts: operationalize requirements under Bill 194 within AI and digital solutions. Drive continuous risk management focused on patient safety, data protection, third‑party risk, disaster recovery, and business continuity. Standardize delivery methodologies and release management via CAB; track on‑time/on‑budget delivery and production stability. Modernize core platforms: set roadmaps for network, compute, storage, identity, collaboration, and key clinical systems, ensuring scalability and high availability. Ensure service reliability: own SLOs/SLAs, observability, capacity planning, and performance engineering; reduce technical debt and enforce currency (N‑1). Provide vendor and contract stewardship: negotiate enterprise agreements and manage performance for strategic partners and managed services. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Health, IT, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree (MSc, MBA, MHI, MHSc, or equivalent) preferred. PMP, CAPM, or ITIL certification preferred. 5+ years of experience in Canadian healthcare organizations. 5+ years in IT service management and delivery; director-level experience preferred. Expertise in IT infrastructure, analytics, AI tools, risk management, and governance. Experience leading enterprise-wide technology transformations and AI/data science projects in healthcare. Understands the importance of and demonstrates commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dynamic, creative, collaborative, inclusive, forward thinking, invitational leadership style. Strong attention to detail and efficient time-management skills with the ability to establish clear priorities responsibilities and lead others establish priorities to address key strategic and emerging needs. Fiscal management experience, including budgets, business cases, and efficiency strategies. Exceptional executive communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to influence senior leaders and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to model integrity, resilience, and adaptability in a rapidly evolving digital health environment. Strong commitment to continuous learning in AI, data science, and healthcare innovation. Proven track record of ethical decision-making and accountability in complex projects. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to engage multidisciplinary teams, clinicians, and stakeholders. Experience in mentoring and developing talent in digital health and AI domains. Expertise in leading large-scale digital health initiatives and AI-driven solutions that improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Strong project management skills with a focus on measurable impact and sustainability. Ability to set clear goals, monitor progress, and deliver results within budget and timelines. Proven ability to build strategic partnerships with healthcare organizations, technology vendors, and academic institutions. Skilled in navigating complex stakeholder environments and aligning interests toward common objectives. Experience in influencing policy and advocating for digital health transformation. Visionary leadership in driving digital health and AI strategies aligned with organizational and system-wide priorities. Ability to anticipate future trends in healthcare technology and integrate them into long‑term planning.
