This position will be a casual status opportunity. Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking an experienced, creative, and motivated Senior Urban Planner – Transportation to support the Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering group in Ontario. The selected candidate will support the group’s growing local and national practice and work directly with industry-leading multimodal transportation planners, engineers and mobility specialists across North America. The role involves developing and implementing transportation policies, collaborating with stakeholders, analyzing data, and leading the assessment of project impacts through an equity lens. Candidates should have a strong understanding of urban transportation planning principles and good communication skills. Responsibilities Act as a Senior Urban Planner on complex and challenging transportation planning assignments; Use knowledge of provincial and local planning policy in the preparation of planning policy studies for public sector clients; Contribute to transportation planning and engineering projects including feasibility studies, transportation environmental assessments, functional plans, and preliminary designs for active transportation facilities and other types of facilities as assigned Assist with facilitation of public workshop events. Use knowledge of planning, land use, infrastructure economics, and transportation equity to analyze and address socioeconomic impacts of transportation infrastructure projects on the public Leverage experience with Ontario municipal capital infrastructure delivery processes to inform strategic planning initiatives that align with realistic construction timelines Serve as GIS lead on projects and comply with established project scope, schedule and budget; and coordinate multiple supporting GIS resources. Work with project teams to determine the optimal approach for using geospatial technologies to meet client needs, accurately estimate the corresponding level of effort, and then see implementation through to completion. Actively engage with immediate GIS team and greater GIS community, both locally and beyond, staying aware of the state of practice, new tools and technology, and opportunities for growth Support multi-disciplinary teams of planners, architects, urban designers, landscape architects, engineers Analysis and summary of data, including equity data, census, crash records, performance monitoring resources, etc Additional technical background in areas related to urban design, land economics, transportation planning and/or public engagement considered an asset; Demonstrated ability to readily identify potential problems on a project; Your Capabilities and Credentials Comprehensive understanding of planning and urban design principles specifically as it relates to urban, regional, and rural planning and placemaking, climate change and resilience, emerging innovations, and development economics. Interpretation and development of transportation planning policy, including master plans, land use plans and zoning by-laws Experience in transportation engineering and planning including functional planning and preliminary design for AT (Active Transportation) facilities in Ontario municipalities. Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with the planning, programming, and prioritization of Ontario municipal transportation infrastructure projects from conception to delivery, informed by factors such as, but not limited to, socioeconomic impacts and transportation equity Excellent working knowledge of/strong hands-on experience with transportation data management/analyses using GIS/databases. Strong understanding of foundational GIS principles and skills. Solid foundation in coordinate system projections and transformations. Proficient in both vector and raster data management and analysis techniques. Strong cartographic skills for both desktop and web-based maps. GIS-CAD data interoperability and integration skills. Proficient with Esri ArcGIS Pro Expert in ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal, including associated applications (e.g., Dashboards, Experience Builder, Hub Site, StoryMap). Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written, including stakeholder presentations Proficiency in spoken and written English; High level of proficiency in MS Office applications. Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Self-motivated to continuously improve and learn new technical and consulting skillsets. Prior experience within a consulting environment will be considered valuable. A strong aptitude for collaboration, particularly across disciplines such as Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Engineering and Architecture; and Excellent skills in research, data analysis, and problem solving Additional technical background in areas related to urban design, land economics, transportation planning and/or public engagement considered an asset; Additional experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD or Synchro will be considered favorably High level of integrity, “doing the right thing” in an ethical and fair way, while upholding professional demeanor at all times. Demonstrated experience working and supporting an equitable, diverse and inclusive team environment, respecting and valuing both individual and overall team excellence. Capable of producing high-quality work on schedule, while working both independently and in a collaborative team environment Education and Experience University degree in engineering, urban planning, economics, geography, or a related field A relevant Urban Planning degree (Masters-level an asset) and Full Membership in the OPPI (or eligibility to apply) and planning experience of a minimum of 10 years, with demonstrated experience working directly for Ontario municipalities.
