January 2026 – August 2026 Join Capital Power as a Co‑op student and gain hands‑on experience in industrial automation, cybersecurity, and data analytics. You’ll help maintain and optimize AVEVA PI historian systems, troubleshoot control system data flows, and apply security best practices to keep our operations reliable and secure. If you’re curious, driven, and ready to learn cutting‑edge technologies, this role is your opportunity to make an impact You will contribute to our team by: Assist in AVEVA central PI historian maintenance including tag creation, modification, data source integration, and generating trend analyses to support reliability and optimization efforts. Support troubleshooting of data flow issues between control systems and PI historian. Provide day‑to‑day assistance in monitoring and maintaining control systems across the fleet. Help apply system hardening practices to industrial control systems to reduce vulnerabilities. Support implementation of security configurations, patch management, and compliance with NERC/ISO CIP standards. Maintain accurate records, electrical and control system drawings based on engineering changes and project requirements. Assist in preparing reports and technical documentation for internal and external engineering users. Take initiative to learn new tools and technologies related to industrial automation, cybersecurity, and data analytics. What you will bring to the role: Education: Completion of at least one year in a post‑secondary Engineering degree program and still enrolled in the program. Experience: Analytical skills to identify potential problems related to position responsibilities. Ability to work effectively with others to resolve issues as part of a team. Planning and time management capabilities, along with independent problem‑solving skills. Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting. Basic scripting or programming knowledge (PowerShell, Python, VBA) for automation tasks. Understanding of data flow for engineering historian systems; Experience with time series historian (e.g. AVEVA PI system) is an asset. Fundamentals of control system architecture, networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN), and OT protocols (Modbus, OPC, DNP3). Basic knowledge of system hardening practices (firewall configuration, antivirus, patch management). Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures for critical OT servers. Exposure to Windows Server administration (Active Directory, Group Policy, user permissions). Working Conditions: Hybrid Office/Work from home position.
