Senior Data Scientist – Remote (Oakville, Canada) Natus Neuro is a leader in EEG and neurodiagnostic devices. This role is part of the Research and Advanced Development Team, focused on developing and implementing state-of-the-art machine learning for next-generation neurodiagnostic products. Summary: As a Data Scientist, you will contribute to the development of machine learning for neurodiagnostics (e.g., EEG, PSG, EMG, ICP Monitoring) and support the product portfolio with scalable data science solutions. Responsibilities Collaborate with internal and external clinicians, medical providers, and engineers to design, implement, maintain, and test robust data processing workflows including acquisition, pre-processing, curation, quality control, and feature extraction. Develop deployable diagnostic and decision support algorithms using classical and deep learning methods on neurophysiological datasets. Design, develop, and test diagnostic visualization and clinical decision support tools to advance neurodiagnostic clinical practice. Conduct rigorous statistical validation and performance evaluation of models, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and interpretability. Communicate and document data science methodologies to technical and clinical audiences across engineering, product, and clinician teams. Serve as an expert resource in data science and medical device algorithms. Identify new market opportunities and evaluate cutting-edge external neurological technologies for applicability to the Natus product portfolio. Contribute to intellectual property development in strategic areas; may write, review, and submit patents. Education and Experience Required BS in Biomedical Engineering, Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of algorithm development and deployment experience in electrophysiology or related field, including: Classical machine learning and deep learning with production frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch). Cloud platforms and services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for AI/ML and data processing pipelines. Experience securely storing and accessing data in cloud environments. Git and CI/CD workflows for reproducible AI/ML pipelines. Containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes). Data curation, cleansing, and verification techniques. Experience with EEG signals (scalp, iEEG, ECoG, sEEG, or LFP) or PSG. Strong coding skills (Python, Matlab, C/C++, or C#). Attention to detail and adherence to best practices. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment with changing priorities. Preferred MS or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of algorithm development and deployment experience in electrophysiology or related field. Experience developing for neurophysiological sensor-based systems (e.g., EMG, EEG) or signal processing (e.g., seizure detection) in a medical device setting. Experience deploying ML models in embedded, low-power, wearables. Experience storing and accessing data in regulated multitenant cloud environments. Proficiency with cloud-native AI/ML services or frameworks (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, Google AI Platform). Data engineering experience in a cloud environment, including ETL tools. Experience with experiment and data lineage tools (MLflow, DVC, etc.). Experience with high-performance, multi-platform data streaming primitives (e.g., ZeroMQ, RabbitMQ). Travel Minimal travel in and out of country (less than 10% of the time) is required. Supervisory Responsibilities None.
