Operations Lead - Fort McMurray As an Operations Lead, you will provide critical operational support in one of Canada's most demanding industrial environments, ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence at our clients' Fort McMurray operations. This role requires a safety-first mindset, extensive knowledge of Alberta's extreme operating conditions, and experience with oil sands operations or similar heavy industrial environments. You will collaborate with the Senior Facility Manager to maintain operational continuity, oversee specialized facility systems, and ensure compliance with rigorous safety protocols and regulatory requirements. Please note that all personnel are required to undergo mandatory drug testing (pre-employment, reasonable cause, random, and post-incident) to gain and maintain site access. WHAT YOU'LL DO Operational Excellence & Safety Leadership Lead facility management operations ensuring compliance with safety standards and Alberta OH&S regulations in a harsh industrial environment Maintain and update daily engineer log books as required by operational protocols Participate actively in emergency response training and serve as a member of the emergency response team (ERT) Provide immediate response to emergency work orders and maintain 24/7 on-call availability, 365 days per year Facility Operations & Maintenance Oversee on-going cosmetic, corrective, and preventative maintenance programs and site improvements as requested Develop and implement QA/QC programs in accordance with quality assurance protocols Respond to all facility maintenance work orders within 24 hours unless otherwise specified Conduct comprehensive facility inspections of oil sands production support areas, administrative buildings, and critical infrastructure systems Client Relations & Service Delivery Ensure exceptional client satisfaction through specialized facility management services tailored to oil sands operations Support operational briefings, manage conference facilities, coordinate food services for shift workers, and oversee parking management for multi-shift operations Manage badging systems and visitor management protocols ensuring strict adherence to site access requirements Maintain compliance with Master Services Agreement and exceed site-specific KPIs for oil sands operations Strategic Support & Continuous Improvement Support energy management programs designed for high-consumption oil sands operations to maximize efficiency and reduce environmental impact Lead cost savings initiatives while maintaining operational integrity in extreme weather conditions Collaborate with sourcing teams on specialized equipment procurement suitable for Fort McMurray's harsh operating environment Propose building maintenance procedure updates and improvements as required WHAT YOU BRING (REQUIRED) Education & Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in industrial operations Minimum three years in oil sands operations, heavy industrial facility management, or similar remote industrial environments Demonstrated experience working in Fort McMurray or equivalent remote northern operations Technical Expertise Comprehensive understanding of building systems designed for extreme climates (HVAC systems rated for -40 C to C, electrical distribution for industrial loads, steam/heating systems, water treatment for oil sands operations) Thorough knowledge of Alberta OH&S regulations, environmental standards, and industrial safety protocols Proficiency in maintenance management systems (CMMS) and specialized oil sands operational software Personal Attributes Proven ability to work effectively in extreme weather conditions (-40 C to C) and 24/7 operational environments Excellent communication skills for diverse workforce including trades personnel, operations staff, and senior management Strong safety mindset with ability to enforce and maintain rigorous safety standards in high-risk industrial environments WHAT YOU BRING (PREFERRED) Previous experience with major oil sands facilities Remote camp operations experience with understanding of shift work dynamics Emergency response training certification Professional designation in engineering, facilities management, or related field Experience with harsh weather equipment procurement and supplier management for northern operations This role offers the opportunity to work with industry-leading technology and safety systems while contributing to Canada's energy sector in one of the most challenging and rewarding operational environments.
