Opportunity Stantec’s Power System Studies Center of Excellence is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as Technical Lead in Electromagnetic Transient Power System Studies (EMT). The lead will oversee a team of engineers executing EMT studies for generation, transmission and distribution systems, including renewables and energy storage. The role also includes business development, client relations, and technical proposal preparation, as well as contributing to the strategic direction of the power system studies team through participation in IEEE and CIGRE working groups. Your Key Responsibilities Provide direct project leadership on EMT studies, including developing methodologies, preparing models and study cases, analyzing simulation results, identifying system issues, and preparing reports. Meet with clients to report on project progress, interim and final study results. Provide technical support on AC and DC transmission system design and operation. Ensure high‑quality deliverables are prepared on time to meet schedules and budgets. Assign resources to projects to deliver results on schedule. Participate in corporate marketing and business development activities related to EMT analysis. Prepare proposals, including methodology, staffing and cost estimates. Manage client relations for business development activities and work assignments. Lead research and development activities for new technologies and innovative study techniques. Develop a network of industry connections within the global power system community. Participate in IEEE, CIGRE, IEC or other international organizations. Write papers and give presentations at technical conferences. Provide technical advice and mentorship to team members. Contribute to technical training requirements and opportunities. Stay current on the latest simulation tools and techniques used in the industry. Your Capabilities and Credentials Expert level experience in power system studies with emphasis on EMT analysis, static and dynamic modelling of HVDC converters, static var compensators, STATCOMs and other power electronic devices. Expert user of PSCAD and other EMT software applications. Strong background in other power system analysis software including PSSE, PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, CYME, DSATools, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, etc. Experience interacting with internal and external clients. Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget while maintaining high quality. Self‑motivated collaborator who can work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Exceptional written and oral communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences. Proven written and verbal English language communication skills. Technical communication skills in other languages considered an asset. Ability to anticipate problems and provide creative, quick and reliable solutions. International experience completing power system planning studies is an asset. Expert understanding of North American power systems, associated standards and regulations such as NERC TPL standards. Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Willingness to travel within Canada and internationally as required. Education and Experience MSc in Electrical Engineering or PhD in Electrical Engineering preferred. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng and/or PE) is required. Minimum of 15 years of experience as an electrical engineer focused on EMT studies for generation, transmission, renewable energy, battery storage, HVDC and other power electronic and inverter‑based resource (IBR) systems.
