Lead Data Scientist

Lead Data Scientist - Hybrid (onsite occasionally as-needed) - Waterloo
- Build AI that matters. Develop production-ready systems that power real business decisions—not science projects, but high-impact tools used daily across the org.
- Tackle complex problems with autonomy. Partner closely with both technical and business teams to solve high-stakes challenges—your models will drive strategy, not gather dust.
- Join a high-caliber, no-ego team. Work alongside sharp, collaborative minds with private equity roots, in a culture that values clarity, ownership, and results.
- Enjoy flexibility and competitive rewards. Get the freedom to do your best work—along with strong comp, and a team that actually enjoys working together.
The Role
We're looking for a Lead Data Scientist to architect intelligent systems that shape high-stakes decisions. This role combines technical depth, business fluency, and leadership—ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity and wants to push the boundaries of what's possible with data.
What You'll Do
- Design, train, and deploy ML models and decision algorithms that scale across cloud platforms.
- Lead end-to-end project delivery—from data wrangling and feature engineering to deployment and monitoring.
- Mentor junior scientists and elevate team practices around reproducibility, experimentation, and automation.
- Collaborate directly with engineers, operators, and executives to translate analytics into action.
- Stay ahead of the curve by bringing in the latest innovations from academia and industry.
Who You Are
- Ph.D. in a quantitative field (e.g., stats, computer science, applied math).
- 6+ years building and deploying predictive models at scale.
- Expert in Python or R, SQL, and cloud-native ML workflows.
- Comfortable working across domains—from pricing models to diagnostic tools and beyond.
- You communicate like a strategist and build like an engineer.
Location
Remote-friendly (must be based near Chicago for occasional onsite meetings).
