General Surgeon – Shared Health-Soins Communs Job Description Work Location: On site – Brandon Regional Health Centre (150 McTavish Ave East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3) Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible Anticipated Shift: Full Time, Days, Early Mornings, Mornings, Evenings, Nights, On Call, Weekends Daily Hours Worked: 30 to 40 hours per week Position Type: Fee for service Wage Rate: Compensation is fee-for-service as per the Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health negotiated rates. Position Summary: As the second largest city in Manitoba, with a population of 55,000 and growing, Brandon is the main hub and referral site for southwestern Manitoba, with a catchment area of approximately 200,000 people. Brandon Regional Health Centre is a fully accredited multi-specialty facility with over 300 beds and is currently undergoing a $110 million-dollar expansion of its inpatient facilities, expected to be completed in 2026. It is a satellite campus for the University of Manitoba and the Rady Faculty of Medicine, offering opportunities for teaching and mentoring medical learners. The surgical suite has 7 operating rooms, one minor surgery room, and supports 56 surgical beds. It includes an endoscopy unit with three rooms and on‑site diagnostic services such as radiology, ultrasound, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine. Specialist services include pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, anesthesia, general surgery, urology, oncology, orthopedic surgery, and internal medicine. Successful applicants must work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and in a high‑volume environment, providing high‑quality patient and family‑centered care. Candidates may join one of our private clinics in the city. Overview Language: English Education: Degree in Medicine Experience: Experience an Asset Work setting: Private practice, Rural area (on‑site only) Responsibilities Diagnose disease and physiological disorders Prescribe post‑operation medication and treatment Supervise surgical procedures Treat diseases, injuries and deformities Act as consultants to other physicians Order laboratory tests, X‑rays and other diagnostic procedures Supervision: 1 to 2 people Credentials Doctor of Medicine degree Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Current licensure or eligibility for full license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba Must have CMPA Coverage or provide proof of equivalent malpractice insurance Candidates with advanced endoscopy training preferred Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality in paper, electronic and other formats Good work and attendance record Security and Safety Complete and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check as appropriate All healthcare workers must be immunized as per Prairie Mountain Health policy The successful candidate is responsible for any service charges incurred.
