Intermediate Water & Wastewater Engineer – WSP Office locations in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta. The role focuses on design resources within the Water & Wastewater group, working on local and national water and wastewater treatment projects in municipal, industrial, and effluent reuse sectors. What you can expect to do here: Assist the senior engineer in assessments, planning, and design of innovative water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Develop process flow diagrams (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and control narratives. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality designs, reports, and cost estimates while navigating approvals and ensuring project excellence. Engage with clients, sub‑consultants, and contractors, building strong professional relationships to ensure successful project outcomes. Participate in the design of public sector municipal servicing projects including treatment facilities, process works, civil works, force mains, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water mains, and feeder mains. Work within design teams comprised of senior, intermediate, and junior staff. Support all construction phases, from fieldwork to contract administration, gaining hands‑on experience. Contribute to feasibility studies, condition assessments, and permit applications to help drive project strategy and implementation. Mentor and support junior engineers and technologists, fostering growth and technical excellence. Liaise with municipal, utility, and approval agencies and maintain client communications. What you’ll bring to WSP: Degree in civil, process, mechanical engineering, or environmental engineering, with eligibility to apply for a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence in Canada. 7–12 years of relevant industry experience. Familiarity with municipal and provincial approval processes, permitting, and Alberta environmental standards and guidelines. Proven ability to design and manage both horizontal and vertical municipal infrastructure projects, including experience with project management, contract administration, and client relationship building. Proficiency in industry‑standard design and modelling software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM, Revit, MicroStation, WaterCAD, InfoWater, SewerCAD, and process modelling software such as BioWin, SUMO, etc. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to deliver innovative solutions under tight deadlines. Exceptional organisational skills, adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously in fast‑paced, multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project to support effective project documentation, communication, and leadership across all project phases. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
