Who We Are The Health Safety & Emergency Management unit (within Corporate Services) leads the Department of Health and Social Services in 5 key areas: Risk Management, Business Continuity Planning, Occupational Health & Safety, and Emergency Support Services. Health and Social Services has 5 divisions that are supported by this position – Continuing Care, Community & Primary Care, Corporate Services, Social Services, and Innovation Quality and Performance. Who We Are Looking For The Manager, Health, Safety and Emergency Management reports to the Director, Corporate Capital Planning and Risk Management and manages the Department’s Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) and the emergency management system, by developing, implementing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating plans, policies and strategies that will improve the department’s capacity to respond effectively to health and social emergencies, and occupational health and safety requirements. The manager is responsible for Emergency Support Services for the Yukon. This position is a key and critical member in delivering comprehensive HSS Emergency Management in partnership with other Yukon Government program areas, Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Yukon Hospital Corporation, Emergency Measures Organization (EMO), Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Municipal Governments, First Nation Governments, and other emergency management organizations. Completion of Post‑secondary education in emergency management and/or business continuity planning. Completion of Incident Command System training (minimum level 200, or above). Supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized work environment. Experience planning, organizing and delivering emergency management, business continuity, occupational health and safety program activities and services, including the development of policies and procedures. Experience presenting to and facilitating discussions with diverse stakeholder groups, including leading committees or meetings, and developing/maintaining effective stakeholder relationships. Recent experience managing an organization’s response to an emergency. Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
