Job Summary Work Term: Fall 2026 (September – December). The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) seeks students for a Co‑op or internship placement from September 2026 to December 2026. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited co‑op or internship program at a post‑secondary institution. Opportunity Overview Students will gain experience in science, technology, and intelligence through a variety of streams. Each stream offers hands‑on work, mentorship, and a chance to influence future career paths. Employees will pair students with experienced mentors and may offer multiple placements within the directorate. Placement Areas Database Administration Embedded Systems Programming / Hardware IT Infrastructure Support IT / Network Security Networking / Network Engineering / Telecommunications Software Development Specialized Intelligence Collection Systems Support Technicians Quality Assurance and Testing Stream 1 – Database Administration Install, configure, monitor, and support databases; perform backups and restores. Advise developers on database design and query best practices. Stream 2 – Embedded Systems Programming / Hardware Work with analog and digital electronic circuits and troubleshoot hardware/software/firmware. Assist with system testing and evaluation. Analyze test results and track issue resolution. Gain experience with microcontroller architecture (Raspberry Pi, Arduino) and embedded PC hardware. Stream 3 – IT Infrastructure Support Provide operational infrastructure services enabling intelligence collection. Maintain Linux/Windows servers, virtualization, storage, and identity management. Support enterprise environments and web infrastructure. Stream 4 – IT / Network Security Research security practices and validate tools. Apply best practices for commercial hardware/software. Develop audit tools and scripts. Conduct security assessments and obtain government IT security standards. Participate in a Security Operations Center environment. Stream 5 – Networking / Network Engineering / Telecommunications Develop tools for telecommunications data delivery. Test and maintain mobile devices and networks. Configure LAN/WAN communications. Stream 6 – Software Development Use programming languages such as Java, C#, JavaScript, Python, C/C++, Go. Perform development and integration with Pega BPM. Build APIs and front‑end tools. Participate in design, testing, and documentation. Support or modernize legacy applications. Mobile development (iOS/Android) and Linux Bash scripting are assets. Stream 7 – Specialized Intelligence Collection Systems Validate technical solutions in operational environments. Provide secure network infrastructure. Investigate, troubleshoot, and remediate client issues. Configure and deploy networking equipment and software. Stream 8 – Support Technicians Hardware repairs and setup. Application support and password resets. Telephony, fax, and general IT support. Stream 9 – Quality Assurance and Testing Ensure data quality and assurance for collection, filtering, triaging, and reporting. Assist with system testing and evaluation. Develop new test cases and support continuous improvement. Track issues until resolution. Education College Diploma in 3rd year. Undergraduate degree in 3rd year or higher. Graduate‑level student (Master’s or Ph.D.). Field of study must be relevant to the selected stream, e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Networks, IT, Telecommunications, Software Engineering. Experience & Assets Formal or informal experience through school, volunteering, or projects. Assets for Software Development: mobile platform experience, web application development, Linux environments, encryption technologies.
