What we are looking for We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer – Nuclear to any of our GTA and/or Waterloo offices to join the Engineering Design Organization (EDO) group. As a member of the multidiscipline design team, the successful candidate will lead complex electrical design projects, coordinate with the larger project team, and play a crucial role in optimizing GHD’s electrical teams. Responsibilities Serve as electrical discipline lead on nuclear projects and lead project‑specific teams comprised of other engineers, designers and drafters. Write proposals and develop level‑of‑effort estimates. Interpret client standards and specifications, perform design calculations, distribute work within the electrical project team and participate in interdisciplinary coordination. Develop design documents including preliminary design reports, technical memorandums, detail design packages, electrical drawings, specifications, bill of materials, process narratives, construction sequence, equipment procurement documents and sub‑contractor requisitions. Ensure design documents cover: Load lists, power demand summaries (normal and emergency), backup power distribution systems, temporary and permanent electrical service plans, cable routing, duct bank layouts, electrical site plans, transformer sizing, and equipment sizing such as transformers, switchboards, switchgears, MCCs, distribution panelboards. Electrical studies such as short‑circuit analysis and arc‑flash assessments. Participate in internal and external meetings, prepare progress reports, and ensure design is completed within allocated budget and schedule. Perform technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents; provide quality assurance, check design packages, and adhere to GHD QA/QC processes. Provide professional sealing of technical documents. Lead electrical project teams throughout project phases and monitor schedule, quality of deliverables and budgets. Assist during tendering and construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports (short‑circuit, protective device coordination, arc‑flash, ground‑potential rise, harmonics), completing site inspections, preparing testing plans and evaluation of change orders. Ensure compliance with Canadian electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations, and coordinate with clients and approving authorities. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master’s Degree or equivalent preferred. Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario; P.Eng. in other provinces or PMP certification considered assets. Minimum 15+ years of relevant experience working on and/or leading nuclear projects. Experience designing medium and/or large‑scale nuclear power generation systems and substations within a consulting environment. Excellent knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations (CNSC, NRC, IAEA). Experience managing client relations, scope changes, schedule and budgets on complex engineering projects. G‑class driver’s license and ability to visit site when required. Experience mentoring and supervising junior staff. Eligibility to obtain relevant Nuclear Security Clearance. Working knowledge of power system and modelling software such as ETAP, EasyPower or SKM. Working knowledge of Smartplant Electrical software is an asset. Knowledge of instrumentation and controls is a strong asset. Experience with design of fire alarm, heat tracing and cathodic protection systems is considered a strong asset. Proven experience in Owner’s Engineer role. Proven experience covering I&C scope as lead electrical engineer is an asset.
