We’re hiring a Principal AI/ML Engineer to be our top technical authority and hands‑on builder for all AI initiatives. The Opportunity This is a foundational role for Science & Humans’ AI strategy. As a Principal Engineer, you will: Set the technical direction for our AI/ML systems. Architect and deliver production-grade models at scale. Push the boundaries of what’s possible in applied AI for healthcare. You will not manage people directly — instead, you’ll drive influence through technical excellence, setting standards, mentoring peers informally, and partnering with leadership to embed AI into our products. What You’ll Do Define the end-to-end architecture for AI systems (Vertex AI, BigQuery, TensorFlow, RAG pipelines). Research, prototype, and implement advanced ML/LLM techniques. Ensure AI solutions are robust, explainable, and clinically relevant. Applied AI in Health Build models for triage, personalization, and predictive insights. Fine‑tune and productionize LLMs and RAG pipelines for conversational health tools. Engineer features from multi‑modal health data (labs, biomarkers, wearables, behavioral). MLOps & Production Scale Implement CI/CD, observability, and monitoring for ML workflows. Guarantee reproducibility, auditability, and compliance (PIPEDA, HIPAA). Integrate AI into mobile apps, clinician dashboards, and async messaging systems. Champion best practices for ethical AI, fairness, and bias detection. Act as the go‑to AI expert internally and externally (open‑source contributions, conference talks, thought leadership optional but encouraged). What You Bring 8+ years in machine learning / applied AI, with deep technical expertise. Proven experience designing and deploying production ML systems at scale. Strong background in LLMs, transformers, RAG pipelines, and multimodal ML. Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, SQL, GCP (Vertex AI, BigQuery, Dataflow, Kubeflow). Demonstrated ability to bridge research and production. Expertise in explainability, bias detection, and responsible AI. Nice to Have PhD or MSc in ML/AI, Computer Science, or related discipline. Prior work with FHIR/HL7 or healthcare data standards. Experience with wearable/IoT signal processing. Publications, patents, or open‑source leadership in AI/ML. Why Join Us?
