Responsibilities Provide senior advanced level engineering expertise to large‐scope, high‑risk railway projects, ensuring effective system assurance, regulatory compliance and safety management for all railway system operations. Support BCRTC in meeting Interoperability and Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM‑REA) requirements; manage Engineering Safety Management of product introductions and project deliveries. Develop and maintain Safety Instructions and Safety Assessment Processes; oversee safety assurance activities across projects and programs, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Act as Safety Assurance Manager for standard application projects or product introductions; support large or complex projects with safety leadership. Implement a Safety Management Lifecycle for product introductions and complex projects, developing Safety Plans, safety cases and justification reports. Apply safety assurance methodologies, conduct hazard analysis, safety risk activities, and chair Hazard Identification activities. Organize and attend periodic Safety Reviews; oversee hazard logs, mitigation, closure and present Safety Case arguments to internal and external assessors. Plan and prioritize Safety Assurance activities, adapt to changes, and provide advice on safety requirements for commissioning and acceptance. Liaise with BCRTC, TransLink, regulators, subcontractors and suppliers on safety management issues; prepare Safety Assurance inputs for procurement contracts. Mentor and develop other members of the Safety Assurance Team and provide Key Project Indicators as required. Qualifications University degree in Engineering or a required discipline; Professional Engineering designation or eligibility to be registered with EGBC. Minimum six (6) years of senior‑level project engineering experience, preferably within transit, rolling stock or rail infrastructure. Advanced or expert knowledge of systems engineering, relevant standards, legislation, and regulatory requirements for the rail industry. Advanced knowledge of railway operation and maintenance practices, including configuration control, systems engineering and requirements management frameworks. Advanced analytical, problem‑solving, decision‑making, and interpersonal communication skills. Solid time management skills, ability to coordinate multiple concurrent activities, and to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders. Other Requirements Experience with Asset Management and Life‑Cycle Project Management. Expert knowledge of safety assurance methodologies, hazard analysis, risk activities and safety case development. Work Schedule 37.5 hours per week. Position works predominately on‑site as a resident. Rate of Pay Salary range: $97,600 – $146,400 per annum (actual offer based on experience, skills and qualifications). Total compensation includes extended health, dental, transit pass and public service pension plan contributions.
