Substation Engineer

Job Description Job Title: Substation Engineer Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled High Voltage Electrical Engineer to lead substation projects and mentor junior team members. The role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of substation projects, including layout design, equipment sizing, protection and controls work, and conducting power system studies. You will develop equipment specifications, assist with procurement, create design drawings, and draft energization and commissioning plans. Additionally, you will conduct on-site field inspections, supervise site commissioning, and collaborate with clients and stakeholders. Responsibilities Lead and oversee substation projects from inception to completion. Design substation layouts and size equipment appropriately. Conduct power system studies and develop equipment specifications. Draft energization and commissioning plans and conduct on-site field inspections. Supervise site commissioning and ensure compliance with all relevant standards. Mentor and train junior team members. Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to ensure project alignment and success. Essential Skills Minimum of 7 years of design experience in electrical engineering. Background in Electrical Engineering with P.Eng certification. Experience in stamping designs within Canada. Proficiency in substation equipment change-outs and brownfield substation projects. Experience with MCCs, VFDs, and plant distribution. Knowledge of power systems and the ability to size equipment based on load. Experience leading design studies such as short circuit and grounding studies. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Technical expertise in electrical engineering design for transmission substation power systems up to 287 kV. Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code and relevant CSA, ANSI/IEEE standards. Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC or APEGA. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CDEGS for grounding studies is an asset. Work Environment This role offers flexibility to work out of Langley, Canmore, or Calgary. Initially, you will work two days a week in the office, eventually transitioning to 2-3 days a week in Canmore. The position operates under a hybrid model, with a combination of remote and in-office work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, AB. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $77.00/hr. Workplace Type This is a hybrid position in Calgary,AB.
