Overview The Children’s Day Treatment Program is a Mental Health Outpatient Program operating out of the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. The multidisciplinary team supports, assesses, and treats children in grades 3‑7 in a school‑like setting who present with complex mental health challenges or diagnoses. Reporting to the area supervisor/manager, the Family Counselor provides system‑based assessment and treatment, case management, and coordination of therapeutic services for program clients and their families. The counselor collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of health professionals and is required to carry an advanced clinical caseload, providing family and individual assessment and treatment, group therapy, milieu management, and crisis intervention. Flexibility is required for practice within an evolving continuum of care. This position transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Responsibilities Provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up for clients and their families. Deliver clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and act as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programmes in the community. Collaborate with other health‑care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care. Required Qualifications Completion of a master’s degree in a health‑related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college. Additional Required Qualifications Experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health team. Experience working with children and adolescents with mental illness. Preferred Qualifications Minimum 3 years’ experience providing family therapy. Working knowledge of the DSM‑V. Completion of Brain Story Certification (preferred). Knowledge of Attachment Theory & Collaborative Problem‑Solving Training (preferred). Suicide risk assessment training.
