Manager, Waste Management Services at Hydro One 51032 – Toronto – Regular Overview Hydro One is the largest electricity transmission and distribution provider in Ontario, serving nearly 1.5 million customers. This role leads the delivery of environmental waste management services across Ontario, overseeing a team of approximately 8 professional staff and 20 field support staff responsible for managing waste for major capital transmission projects, programs, and Lines of Business (LOBs). The position requires travel across Ontario and focuses on compliance with all Provincial and Federal regulations while building a high‑performance, collaborative team capable of delivering services on time and on budget within multi‑disciplinary project teams. Key Responsibilities Direct and mentor a team of unionized professionals to deliver waste management services province‑wide. Develop and implement waste management strategies for projects and programs, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and compliance monitoring. Ensure adherence to environmental legislation, Hydro One policies, and best practices; maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and industry trends. Manage vendor contracts, budgets, and cost‑control measures to optimize service delivery. Provide expert guidance to internal teams and LOBs on waste classification, surplus material handling, and regulatory compliance. Engage with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, Indigenous communities, vendors, and the public, to support project objectives. Represent Hydro One on internal and external committees and technical forums. Drive continuous improvement, safety, and efficiency within waste management programs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Planning, Forestry, or related field. Minimum 10 years’ experience in environmental/waste management or utility operations, including 3–5 years in a supervisory role. Strong knowledge of waste management regulations (Reg 347, Reg 406, RPRA, TDG, PCB) and industry best practices. Proven leadership skills in a unionized environment; excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Experience in project management, contract administration, and stakeholder engagement. Familiarity with environmental management systems, contaminant management, and remediation planning is an asset. Occasional travel across the province with overnight stays is required.
