Service: Complexes, Aqua & Specialized Services Employment Type: Multiple Part-time Permanent positions - Up to 24 hours/week Various Shifts: Days, Evenings, Weekends Affiliation: CUPE 503 PT Rec & Cult Salary Information: $33.508 - $44.900 per hour (2024 rates of pay) Location: Various Locations City: Ottawa, ON Job Category: Recreation, Cultural & Facility Services Application Close:07/06/2026 JOB SUMMARY The Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant City, as well as ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer, and overseeing Buildings and Facilities Management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities. You are responsible for teaching specialized aquafitness programming to participants in a safe and enjoyable manner while following the guidelines of the certifying agency, and in accordance with corporate and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Completion of Grade 11 and current Certifications from a recognized certifying organization (or equivalent as deemed acceptable by management) Minimum of 6 months of experience or equivalent apprenticeship CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES Aquafitness Instructor Specialty certification (CALA, YM-YWCA, WaterART or other recognized certification) Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates AODA Accessibility/IASR Training Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate is an asset Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate is an asset KNOWLEDGE Corporate and Departmental policies, guidelines and directives City of Ottawa emergency response procedures Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers Knowledge of specialty area, including but not limited to, demographic needs, goals and objectives and how to safely design and facilitate specialty fitness programs COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Able to handle the stress of an emergency situation Excellent customer service skills Excellent organizational skills Understanding of and ability to communicate using verbal and non-verbal cues Offer alternatives and options to participants Understand contraindications for specialty populations Vibrant, energetic, motivating teaching style Professional appearance and demeanour while on duty Report to work in ample time to be ready at the start of their shift Possess the physical capability to perform the ongoing duties of the position, including ability to demonstrate all movement patterns and facilitate an active fitness class Asset:Strong interpersonal skills Works well in a team environment Reliable WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Language Requirement:Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
