Energy Project Engineer

The Engineering and Plant Services department at Unity Health is currently looking for an Energy Project Engineer. The Energy Project Engineer will report to the Director of Project Engineering & Energy and will be responsible for the initiation, planning, scheduling and implementation of construction and renovation projects at the hospital. The Energy Project Engineer will be responsible for multiple projects and must maintain accountability for the project management and construction process and must execute complex and ever changing renovations and projects within the Hospital to ensure continuous evolution of the Hospital's Infrastructure and Physical Facilities to support the Sustainability and Energy goals.
Duties
& Responsibilities Responsible for preparing and submitting greening incentives for projects through various programs such as SaveOnEnergy Assist the Network Unity Health Toronto in achieving an annual energy savings target emissions savings target and contributing to progressing the organization’s GHG Emissions Roadmap Regularly monitor utilities consumption, preparing monthly summaries and reports as required to facilitate ongoing work of the Energy Team Set up and review data trends via the Building Automation System to identify areas of opportunity and suggested measures for improvement in utilities consumption, equipment performance and equipment efficiency Identify gaps in ability to meter and monitor equipment performance and provide suggestions for resolution Being accountable for construction projects and activities including design review, cost estimates, project tendering, construction coordination, contract administration, site coordination, site inspections and occupancy Coordinating construction activity required to successfully execute projects and ensure projects are executed in compliance with Hospital and MOHLTC requirements and all applicable regulations, codes and standards Consulting with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers and mechanical engineers as required Providing direction and delegating tasks as necessary external consultants, contractors, trades, vendors, manufacturers and service technicians Contributing to the preparation and monitoring of project budgets and detailed cost estimates Ensuring projects are documented in accordance with departmental policies and procedures throughout the course of the project and report on project milestones to both internal and external parties Completing project close out process including logging Master drawing updates and obtaining project documentation and warranties Completing project commissioning as required, identifying and following up on any deficiencies or issues with the work Researching and developing schematics for various automated hospital systems including electrical and mechanical distribution Analyzing energy reports and advising measures to ensure proper level of energy consumption by means of the statistical analysis of both dynamic and static energy data Acting as a liaison between internal clients (Doctors, Nurses, etc.) and external contractors Ensuring high customer satisfaction among internal and external clients Qualifications Completion of a Bachelor's degree is required, Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering would be preferred Certified Engineering Technician, Certified Engineering Technologist, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Energy Manager In Training (EMIT), or a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario Successful applicant will be required to obtain CEM designation within the first year of employment Strong background in energy management with experience implementing energy projects from start to finish Familiarity with IPMPV protocol Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in Construction and Engineering Project Management, preferably in a health care setting Strong analytical skills and an aptitude for accuracy, detail and problem-solving Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing priorities Knowledge of building systems and equipment, with preference given to those with knowledge of hospital equipment Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Ongoing commitment to providing excellent customer services Well-developed conflict management skills Demonstrated knowledge of the applicable legislation and standards related to the fields of engineering, construction and health-care facility design Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Mission and Values of Unity Health Must have an excellent attendance record Unity Health Toronto is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive organization.
