Security Systems Designer

Convergint is looking for a full-time, team-oriented, results-driven Security Systems Designer to join our culture. As a Designer in our Security Team, you will design, engineer, and document installed solutions with moderate to higher levels of complexity according to project requirements. Proactively communicate with colleagues, vendors, consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ). Responsibilities Provide design or drawing assistance for projects during the development and as‑built stages of the engineered drawings. Work on projects with varying levels of complexity, including moderately complex design projects. Obtain electronic plans from engineers/architects/owners and design drawings from electrical contractors. Create engineered drawings (AutoCAD, etc.) and prepare record drawings and O&M manuals according to project requirements. Work from rough sketches, schematics, and verbal instructions, and maintain Convergint project design, documentation, and submittal standards. Ensure adherence to industry standards and codes as required, and support and maintain Convergint design standards. Apply intermediate and advanced drafting techniques and knowledge of practical, electrical, and fabrication problems. Review scope, product specification, application, and electrical requirements for code compliance and AHJ requirements. Participate in internal design review meetings as coordinated by the Project Managers. Provide all required documentation to the project team, following Convergint standards. Communicate design progress, completion dates, scope revisions, and associated costs to the Engineering Supervisor/Manager. Perform change‑order work only with formal authorization to proceed. Participate in initial site surveys and/or walkthroughs. Prepare submittal packages according to project requirements or Convergint standards and revise as required. Provide operational support for the sales phase of projects when needed. Offer training and work direction for other designers when required. Act as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times, ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service. What You’ll Need Solid customer focus and the ability to work under pressure, maintaining awareness of the customer’s needs and wants without prompting. Solid knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to security and fire systems. Must be a self‑starter. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel). Proficiency in AutoCAD viewing software. Requirements Minimum of five years of previous experience. Minimum two years of experience in the security systems industry. Minimum two years of AutoCAD experience. Degree or Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or low‑voltage systems design coursework strongly preferred. Relevant trade designation is an asset.
