Data and Model Governance Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and curious Data and Model Governance Lead to join Marqeta’s Legal, Risk, and Compliance (LRC) organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of data science, regulatory operations, and risk analytics. You will partner with Compliance, Risk, Legal, and cross‑functional stakeholders to unlock insights, automate processes, and elevate how we govern and manage third‑party programs, cardholder protections, data models, and regulatory obligations. Furthermore, you’ll be expected to partner with cross‑functional teams outside of our immediate organization and strategize how to best bring our metrics‑driven performance framework to life, while also supporting the needs of external partners in functions such as Compliance, Revenue, Legal, and Product. The successful candidate should also be able to assist with lightweight process automation through scripts and possess strong SQL skills. You will be viewed as the department‑specific data lead, which will require a close partnership with our Data & Insights, Product, and Engineering teams. Ultimately, you will help us improve our end‑to‑end processes to yield better program management experiences overall. We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere within Ontario or British Columbia, Canada. We’d love for you to join us The Impact You’ll Have Build and maintain data pipelines to automate intake, structuring, and quality control of information received from third‑party programs, including due diligence and ongoing reporting responses, and risk indicators. Build and maintain a Model Risk Management program, including Policy development and operationalizing supporting processes. Partner with compliance stakeholders to design dashboards and analytics that surface risks across a range of regulatory areas, such as consumer disputes (Reg E/Z), disclosures, and program oversight. Design and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and other reporting assets to monitor key LRC metrics (e.g., compliance testing results, issue remediation progress, risk ratings, Enterprise Risk Key Risk Identifiers, Adherence to Risk Appetite Thresholds). Assist with development of Enterprise Risk Appetite and Key Risk Indicator Metrics, along with automation into systemized reporting. Build automation through Python scripting or similar methods to eliminate repetitive, manual processes across the LRC function. Identify data gaps and develop proxy metrics or interim solutions to enable decision‑making while long‑term infrastructure is developed. Partner with engineering and product teams to support integration of compliance data needs into Marqeta’s platform and tools (e.g., Salesforce, Looker, Looker Studio). Serve as a strategic analytics partner to the Compliance leadership team in operational planning, resourcing, and performance tracking. Who You Are 5+ Years of experience in payments, financial services and/or Fintech. Advanced SQL skills, including 8+ years experience working with large data sets. Intermediate to advanced technical skills (e.g. Python, R, or other automation‑focused languages). Proficiency with dashboard and/or business intelligence tools (e.g. Looker, Looker Studio, Tableau). Experience with Git, Snowflake, Airflow, and Salesforce is a plus. Foundation of integrity and strong character to consistently represent Marqeta’s values. Self‑starter who is a consummate team player and has demonstrated the ability to thrive in the face of ambiguity. Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver on multiple projects; highly motivated and able to work in an agile environment. Nice‑To‑Haves Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to work with stakeholders across different functions and levels, both internally and with partners. Startup/high‑growth company experience with a proven track record of thriving in high‑performing teams and fast‑paced environments. Virtual “Onsite” consisting of 4‑5, 45 min calls. When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new‑hire base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD, is: 141,200‑176,500. We also believe in recognizing the contributions of our people.
