The Medicine Hat Public School Division provides quality learning environments that make available positive experiences that are developmentally appropriate and support the whole student. As a humanities teacher at Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Center (WLC), the expectation is to provide a learning environment that supports students in their academic, social and physical growth. Key skills to success in this position are the ability to build positive relationships, the ability to incorporate differentiated instruction into daily routine as well as strong classroom management.
Wilson Learning center is looking for a full-time, temporary position for the 2024-2025 school year. In the role as a humanities teacher and leading a visual arts and design academy, it will be expected that instruction will be focused on student learning through intentional instruction of concepts, skills and outcomes of humanities curriculum. An understanding of Teacher Clarity as a foundation for instruction and assessment will be an asset. Experience with, or a commitment to implementing, small group instruction is also necessary.
Through the Royal Visual Arts and Design Academy, we prioritize a hands-on and experiential learning approach. Through a combination of studio practice, theoretical knowledge, and real-world projects, students gain the skills and confidence needed to thrive in the competitive world of visual arts. Our emphasis on critical thinking and artistic expression prepares students to make meaningful contributions to the ever-evolving field of visual arts. Visual Arts and Design Academy aims to provide opportunities for students to develop self-awareness and express their creativity; students are continually engaged in learning how to translate their vision through a variety of mediums.
The successful candidate will be required to support our school’s mission Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre creates authentic connections and provides meaningful learning for all. As a community, we support each other through mutual respect and value each individual’s unique self. WLC empowers students to be responsible, engaged learners who collaborate, and demonstrate a growth mindset. This new teacher will also be required to “live” and commit to our school’s core values of Respect, Community, Responsibility and Engagement.
Wilson Learning Center seeks individuals who are enthusiastic, caring, and committed to working with this age group of learners and their unique characteristics. The individual selected to fill this position will be an active participant in the learning community and culture development of our school.
